I am not the most avid gamer by a long shot, but Final Fantasy enjoys its place among PlayStation classics like the Twisted Metal, Armored Core and Gran Torismo and together these games keep me coming back.
That said, X-2 was a grave disappointment. It goes to show why it is almost impossible to make a true sequel to an RPG. Anyone who Recalls the "shock" ending to 10 will note that Tidus is pretty clearly NOT coming back in 10-2 without some reset button magic, but 10-2 is the hopeless and pitiful love story of Yuna as she searches the country-side for her lost bo, she cries and she sings and she whines and she sings and she dances and sings... thats because the daughter of Lord Braska and savior of the free world decided that she didn't get enough attention untill she became a pop singer.
I based my rating solely on two components: Game-Play and Story. The story is "girl centric," putting an inordinate amount of time into listening to yuna whine and chasing "pretty butterflies" and whatever else you can think of that would turn off any male over the age of 10. i'm almost surprised i didnt need to pull out the easy-bake or raise a child. in short, its not an adventure its a soap opera.
Game-play is simple, if infuriating. 10-2 uses a garment system that isnt unlike the "roles" system in 13 or the "materia" in 7 whereby you switch garments to change attributes, abilities and to gain buffs. thats right, 10-2's BATTLE SYSTEM is a reinvented game of dress-up. wow.
my advice is if you like the FF series, just skip it. if you like soap operas, this is the one and only video game for you, and in case you are wondering, no, there is nothing that happens in 10 that you need to know about for 10-2.
This game was amazing! I fell in love with the way the battles were set up and the story line. You have to think fast because although its strategy game, you basically can't sit there and take forever to decide on a move (like paper mario) almost like first come first serve. The graphics are amazingg!!! (in the story movie plays) and the story line is quite touching. This is by far my favorite RPG. I highly recommend this!!!
