GamePlay:

Using the Camera: Some things you can only see through the camera viewfinder, or in a picture. Even if the filament does not change colors, there may be something there. Listen for sounds or be aware of controller vibrations, and take lots of photos!

Viewfinder Mode: The camera filament glows different colors when you are near ghosts or hints. If the filament is glowing red, a violent ghost is in front of you. If the filament is glowing blue, a non-violent ghost or hint is in front of you.

Film Type: Because Type-14 and above films have limited uses, use the unlimited Type-7 film when you want to search an area.

Mayu's Actions: Usually, Mayu will follow Mio (the player) around. If she stops or calls you to come look, there is likely a hint close to her location. Also, Mayu can't fight off ghosts herself. Use the camera to save her from ghost attacks; if she takes too much damage, she will die and the game will be over.

Photos: Your 16 most recent photos will be saved in the photo menu. They will be deleted in order of age as new photos are taken. If you choose Protect from the photo menu, the photo will not be deleted, indicated by a white border around the photo.

Equipping Upgrades: You can equip up to 3 power-up lenses at a time

Adding Spirit Orbs: Use of a Spirit Orb increases the level to which the camera's functions and power-up lenses can be raised. Spirit Orbs can be found throughout the game.

Power-Up Functions: Use points acquired for photographing ghosts to raise the level of the camera's functions, or raise the power-up Lens function. You can only raise the level as high as the amount of Spirit Orbs used on the camera. Also, you have to have enough points to buy the power-up.
