I bought this game, and I love it. It has such beautiful African scenery, and the weapon modeling is gorgeous. If you've played Rainbow Six Vegas 2, you'll enjoy the modeling for the weapons. This game's graphics engine beats out CoD4's, mainly because this game actually keeps up with the visuals and audio at the same time. The reflections, shadows, and sun positions are all real-time.

At times it's action can be a tad slow-paced, but it allows you to take your time and view the impressive surroundings. If you're a twitchy CoD4 player, this game isn't for you, you'll be bored because there just isn't as much senseless combat. You have to be deep, and methodical to overcome most things(depends on your difficulty setting). Swimming in the water, or just being out in the rain, slowly ruins your weapons, as does firing them. Malaria, it's wonderful, sure it can kill you, but so could the bullets all the Africans and Mercs are shooting at you. Though this game doesn't stick with the original Far Cry virus, or maybe it does, you'll have to find out :).

Take a risk, and try this game, I'm betting you'll love it!!! Oh, and uhm...try finding the Golden AK it's the most reliable you'll have :)

Let me point out that this game is awesome. The weather effects are as realistic as they can get, and the time elapsed part of the game is cool. Though I have a gripe about single player:

I have been playing through a couple levels and I found myself just driving around looking for a job, while being chased by random African militia guys at scattered camps. I had to repair my jeep every time it got shot by an AK. I hate how there is a health bar. I have gotten so used to playing Call of Duty 4 and the World at War beta which has no health bar (the edges of the screen turns red which tells you, "HEY, you're gonna die unless you get the heck out of there") I may give it ONE more chance, but nothing's certain. At the beginning of the game, the frame rate was VERY bad... my guess would be around 15 - 25 frames a second. I'm a performance kinda guy so that bugged me.

Now, the positives:

I really like how the gun jams on you if it's dirty, battle-scarred, or rusty. It really adds the realism into the game. I also love the wind and fire effects when they're combined... I've never seen it put into a game before, so I was impressed. The multiplayer is amazing! The game supports up to 16 people online which is good enough for me... as long as I don't have to walk around a map for 10 minutes trying to find someone. I was very, very impressed at how other players can play on custom made maps by the FarCry 2 community. I played on a map that illustrated D-Day, and that was very fun.

Overall, the game is a fantastic addition to the FarCry series. It's definitely worth the rent if you're interested in getting your hands on the multiplayer.

Cormick McCarthy Novel: the Game

A friend of mine who loves this game got me buy it by describing it as playing a video game version of a Cormick McCarthy novel.

I've only had it for a day but so far I agree. And I'm not disappointed.

Long lonely gaps between intense gritty violence make sense when looking at it in that way. As does skulking away from a fire fight to dig bullets out of your limbs and bandage your wounds.
