Weak

Disappointment

I played F.E.A.R. 3 and thought it was amazing, so I decided to go back and play the other two, starting with this one. I'd always heard about this game when I was younger and had high hopes for it, but my experience was disappointing to say the least.

First of all, the gameplay is terrible. The mechanics are weak, movement is clunky, and it gets boring and cumbersome just to wade through level after level. You shoot the same guy in the same room in the same building over and over again and eventually it just becomes a chore instead of the exciting action I've come to love in most recent shooters.

Second, the difficulty is stupid. No, not "hard", or "annoying", just "stupid". Half the time I was questioning why I even took damage, let alone died. Then I would have to start from the last checkpoint (which I crossed 20 minutes before, by the way) for the third time, wondering why I was still even playing. No game should be this frustratingly stupid when it comes to dying.

I wanted to stay clear of playing the bad graphics card, but there's just no way around it. These graphics are TERRIBLE. I just couldn't get into a "horror" game that I couldn't even believe in. It felt like I was playing a newer N64 game more than a so-called "next-gen" title. You can't even look down the sight of your gun, which seriously detracts from gameplay. There's honestly no point in killing enemies other than to keep going through another endless maze of office buildings.

I just couldn't get into this game. I got to the 3rd interval and just had to call it quits, because I saw no point in going any further. It's rare for me to leave a game unfinished, but this one just has no incentive. There aren't even any decent achievements; I wound up with 5G at the end for simply playing the 2nd interval. Upon dying for the 50th time, I finally realized that I had no purpose in continuing the game. It's sitting in my mailbox now. Hopefully, F.E.A.R. 2 will fare better than this joke.
