This isn't an arcade game for children or casual gamers. Codemasters put this game together for true motorsports fans and enthusiasts...not people that want to drive a suped up Honda Civic around a cityscape. Simply put it is a racing simulator that has a sparkling finish and F1 authenticity.

There are ways to make this game easier through the AI and user options, but it is meant to be brutally challenging. The level of adjustability you have with the settings is great and really do make a difference in laptimes. The physics and track accuracy combine to make it as real as it gets. The sound and graphics are perfect. The AI is much improved from their first game in 2010.

The only gripe I have with the game is that you have to be very careful not to blow your engine...almost too careful. Even through the proper gearing, you can still have this issue come up at certain points on certain tracks.

Improvements all around make this game more enjoyable than the previous iteration. It's still a very niche market, but F1 does an excellent job of letting you indulge or ignore as much of the F1 experience as you wish.
I found it more unforgiving to drive, which is more realistic but does mean that people used to arcade style racers may be surprised how little grip F1 cars can have at times. The garage menus are still basic but that they appear organically in the garage rather than just some list of options is immersive.
I would have preferred seeing the 'training' portion done in a lower class of car, or perhaps even a season in the lower class to both serve as training as well as decide what teams available to sign with as an F1 rookie.
If you are into open wheel racing, the choices are pretty slim to begin with. But F1 is a great racing sim that is clearly an effort of passion for the devs, a real joy to drive, and gets better each year.
