Enslaved: Odyssey to the West for Xbox 360 Reviews by Gamers

Enslaved is not a bad game but not a great game either. It is made by Ninja Theory, the makers of Heavenly Sword which I thought was also an average game like this but was shorter and for some reason had better graphics. Maybe because it was a PS3 exclusive. Anyway Enslaved took me about 12 to 15 hours to beat I think.

The platforming elements were very easy and reminded me of the Uncharted series. The combat is what I found kind of frustrating. The camera can be controlled but when in combat it zooms in so you lose track of the other enemies behind you while you are attacking an enemy in front of you. I hated this because I would get hit from behind from an enemy I couldn't see. You also have to collect orbs to upgrade your equipment and add new combat moves. I think Monkey's attacks are kind of slow or there is some type of lag. The finishing moves are neat to watch though. After a while the gameplay gets repetitous. It doesn't help when you fight the same looking mechs throughout the game. But there are some boss battles which adds variety.

The two main characters Monkey and Trip are the only two humans you see in the game for the first half. Later there is another character named Pigsy who is the comedy relief. I was hoping there would be other human characters at least in cutscenes like in Heavenly Sword. The developement of the two main characters was good as they grew closer together. It was kind of like a love story between Trip and Monkey. But the art direction, character design, and the general appearance of the post apocalyptic world did not appeal to me. There isn't enough background story of the characters or the world they live in. So for me I did not find the story very engaging.

What impressed me most in this game was the voice acting and the facial animation. These are just as impressive in Heavenly Sword. I did not like the ending at all it kind of reminded me of the Matrix. No reason to play through more than once. Worth a rent not $60.

this game is amazingly great i loved it. its a pretty awesome hack n slash game. it was a suprise that it was so smooth. the only issue i had was sometimes the camerra angle but other than that love how you have to use both characters to get things done in the game.
