Ideas over Gameplay....Solid Game From MMA's #2

EA's MMA/Strikeforce efforts to build a fighter to contend with UFC's Undisputed series comes not a bit shy from a contendership but more like the noticing of "Bones Jones" after the fight with Stephan Bonner.

MMA's striking system resembles that of The Fight Night series with the exception of kicking. Though it would have sounded good but the movements feel a bit stiff at times. The combo system is generally there but in times of panic to get a specific move off will cause a chaining of moves at the start of the animation resulting in a unwanted strike that you weren't trying to do. Parring is a nice addition but swaying can be a bit difficult since you have to flick the stick instead just moving the stick around. The Special moves like superman punch are near impossible to pull off on a seasoned vet because they require you to flick forward and hit. So your fighter does this annoying and recognizable dash that even a soft kick to the legs can counter.

The ground game on the other hand is superior offering a strike to pass, pass to strike mentality. Meaning Stanima is the key to the ground game and offers a huge strategic value to the game. If you wanna pass, than strike your opponent, if he just lays there looking to stop your advance, than his stamina will deplete from strikes allowing you to do anything. If he blocks your your punches, than he's open to pass. Its managing at its purest form. Though you don't have as many options as far as manuvers than Undisputed, the ground game actually has that Danger/Safe zone feel to it.

Career sounded cool from the box but really falters once you realize the training sessions are the same types no matter where you go, just different levels and the lack of broadcast presentation makes it feel like any other career mode
Graphics:Great but not photo realistic
Gameplay:Decent with an Outstanding ground
Controls:Decent
Sound:Good
Presentation:Poor
Lasting appeal:Moderate.Online might pull you for a few

They have finally put together a fighting game for the thinking man. If you are into taking your guy down to the ground and sitting on top of him and beating him into submission, this game is not for you . This game is set up to be kind to those of us that see that MMA is about strategy. Everything in this game has a counter to it. It takes away the complexity that UFC put into the ground game, you had to have a degree in astrophysics to comprehend how to use it. MMA simplifies the game play allowing for great strategy play.
