Ideas over Gameplay....Solid Game From MMA's #2

EA's MMA/Strikeforce efforts to build a fighter to contend with UFC's Undisputed series comes not a bit shy from a contendership but more like the noticing of "Bones Jones" after the fight with Stephan Bonner.

MMA's striking system resembles that of The Fight Night series with the exception of kicking. Though it would have sounded good but the movements feel a bit stiff at times. The combo system is generally there but in times of panic to get a specific move off will cause a chaining of moves at the start of the animation resulting in a unwanted strike that you weren't trying to do. Parring is a nice addition but swaying can be a bit difficult since you have to flick the stick instead just moving the stick around. The Special moves like superman punch are near impossible to pull off on a seasoned vet because they require you to flick forward and hit. So your fighter does this annoying and recognizable dash that even a soft kick to the legs can counter.

The ground game on the other hand is superior offering a strike to pass, pass to strike mentality. Meaning Stanima is the key to the ground game and offers a huge strategic value to the game. If you wanna pass, than strike your opponent, if he just lays there looking to stop your advance, than his stamina will deplete from strikes allowing you to do anything. If he blocks your your punches, than he's open to pass. Its managing at its purest form. Though you don't have as many options as far as manuvers than Undisputed, the ground game actually has that Danger/Safe zone feel to it.

Career sounded cool from the box but really falters once you realize the training sessions are the same types no matter where you go, just different levels and the lack of broadcast presentation makes it feel like any other career mode
Graphics:Great but not photo realistic
Gameplay:Decent with an Outstanding ground
Controls:Decent
Sound:Good
Presentation:Poor
Lasting appeal:Moderate.Online might pull you for a few

They have finally put together a fighting game for the thinking man. If you are into taking your guy down to the ground and sitting on top of him and beating him into submission, this game is not for you . This game is set up to be kind to those of us that see that MMA is about strategy. Everything in this game has a counter to it. It takes away the complexity that UFC put into the ground game, you had to have a degree in astrophysics to comprehend how to use it. MMA simplifies the game play allowing for great strategy play.

Even though EA Sports MMA does not have the official UFC license like their competitor, it is still an amazing game. The graphics and training centers are great. As someone who actually trains in a real MMA gym, I find the fighting style and actual workouts that your career character practices to be pretty close to the real thing. However I wish that EA Sports would of made the career mode bigger by adding the ability to find sponsorships and pick wear you want to put them on your MMA shorts.

Pros:

-Good Graphics
-Fun Game play
-Realistic Training Centers and Workouts

Cons:

-Career Mode is Lacking

There is a reason that EA MMA will be a one and done franchise. There was some very good things about this game for instance

The cut system was spectacular. Tons better than what UFC Undisputed has done. Cuts would stay and open up easier unlike in UFC which would have them disappear between rounds.

The career mode and the way CAF stats are distributed and how when you trained for something it was for attributes that matter to what you were doing unlike in UFC where all you had to do was spam takedowns and use your side arm choke to get max points and then put them anywhere and put those at 100.

Graphics were top notch.

Now the bad parts.

Online was a complete joke. Spamming galore. I had a guy take me down and then stood up I was trying to get up but was locked in an animation cause he was doing the diving punch at me. He kept rinsing and repeating till I got KO'd.

Career mode gives you money for fights. I did not see anything to spend it on other than traveling which was 5,000 max. I ended up with a couple million to do nothing with.

Submissions. While it was a good idea on paper in game the mini games do not work.

It's good for some achievements and some fun if you have another human that will not glitch/spam you. But definitely not worth 60 bucks. Rent do not buy!

This game beats UFC undisputated in every way! The graphics are simply amazing, the action is fast paced and fun.
Sound is great, good EA trax unlike Undisputed's sound was extremely annoying.
There is ton of customization options in this game, not many as undisputed . tatoos look phenomenal, there are tons of names, last names, nickname options. The training is much better then undisputed and realistic too. The loading is fast, controls are easy?
there was only one flaw with this game; the ground game, with a push of a button to switch positions, get a d submission, it.was to easy I prefer it like undisputed much more conplex. The game also lacks of special moves. D:
But everything else the game is perfect, The engine used in FNR4 makes this gsme a beast!
My other complaint was that you couldn't add dudes with long hair. When tackling a submission it becomes a minigame wich is great and fun!? each time I score a win on career mode It makes me feel proud of myself. The clinch mode is amazing, really fast paced action. overall rent it but If you're a real mma fan this is a definate buy. The roster has some unknown fighters? since the game wasn't licencensed to the UFC, perhaps in the future Dana shall forgive EA and Join forces. (: But the look alikes will be available for fighter download since the photo game face option? oh yeah it's here. The stances, winning movements are far greater than Undisputated and the photo game face feature can make eavh character unique. just get it.

Worth a rent, maybe even a buy

Visuals
It is smoother and better looking than UFC. Way better in this category.

Controls
You can either use fight night style or the UFC style either one works well.

Gameplay
The gameplay is far superior than UFC, but tkos are extremely easy until you fight the tippy top tier of fighters and even then you can choose ur shots and while it may tak longer you stil lcan get ur TKO pretty simply.

Modes
Career mode takes you from little league to the big time and gives you options to fight in different styles and rules, a chocie between a cage and ring, and others.

Replay Value
After you play one weight class in career mode you can play other and fight other types of fighters which is fun, but after you play throughout all weight classes, which will take a while, it is a great party game.

Overall
If you wanan play an mma game go with EA MMA. While the fighters may not be as popular the gameplay is 10xs better than UFC's game.

Just a Jab Short of Perfection

While it doesn't have the sheer roster power of UFC Undisputed 2010 (a comparison that is impossible not to make, given the lack of competition in true MMA games), EA Sports MMA does bring a much cleaner control and smoother animations to the ring, along with a slew of other miscellaneous goodies.

Training is easier here than in Undisputed 2010, if a little monotonous after awhile. Bas Rutten, the guy who has taken an interest in your budding pugilistic career, will guide you through your first series of skill-up minigames which increase your stats in certain areas. All of these exercises end up increasing your health, little by little, and you can concentrate in various standup, clinch, ground and submission exercises. After your first couple of fights, you can train in other camps with MMA sages like Randy Couture who not only can provide more intense training sessions, but also have the ability to teach you special moves to expand your skill set.

In the ring, MMA plays similar to Fight Night, using the right stick to throw punches and the face buttons to initiate clinches and defend. The left trigger changes your strikes to kicks, the right bumper aims your fist to your opponent's body, and the left bumper is a feint modifier. The standup game is slightly sloppy, given that the lightest jab or leg kick can interrupt much more potent moves. But MMA really shines in the clinch and on the ground. The transitions are much cleaner and less frantic than in Undisputed, which required frantic right-stick twirling. A timely button press will defend against takedowns and passes. Both types of submissions are presented here cleanly. Joint submissions require button presses to cinch in and to defend against. No mindless button mashing here, or you'll run out of stamina and lose your grip. Choke submissions require both players to rotate the left stick to find its "sweet spot", which is constantly on the move. Again, mindless twirling is out.

This is by far the best MMA game ever made period and arguably the best realistic combat sport game ever maybe Fight Night Round 4 but that’s about it. The only ppl who don’t like this game are the ones how didn’t learn how to play the game all the way or mad they are losing and don’t want 2 do what it takes 2 get better or they head is so far up the UFC you know what that they don’t know fighters outside the UFC and are not real MMA sport fans and just like quick kos by repeating throwing left hooks over and over and reverse on the ground all day.
This game feels like a mma fight that makes you think and not just spazin out with buttons. The game is not perfect but this is the first game one and 4 the first try they done better than THQ did in 2. This game lays down a great foundation for great games for the future it feels real and is only going 2 get better.

Ic alot people saying this Game is Better then UFC they must just be fan boys of the EA sports brand. Because this game in no way shape or form is better. If you like figthers they look nothing like the real thing. Now if you play UFC you notice right away how real they look its almost creepy.

Also the game play is about slow its not fast pace. the take downs are lame. the movement is abit stiff

Now with that said im glad Ea sports turned the UFC down because that MMA game is terrible.

For example its like Playstation has MLB the SHOW its amazing and X box has baseball made by the 2k brand its terrible.

So Strike force if you want a sweet game Call THQ because your game sucked so bad it hurt too play it I played for about 5 minutes and sent that game back so fast Iv never done that too a game ever.

Ps, the striking sound in the game is the worst iv ever hurd it doesnt even sound like your hitting person

This game was a big let down.
Only few known fighter.
Default Controller are difficult to use, you have to switch but still difficult.
Fight platform if boring. No intensity to the strikes....To keep it short UFC Undisputed is a better Game.

Horrible game thrown together by Ea, could have used another year in development. The graphics are good, but the fight engine is sloppy and unprecise. There are a few good things like a decent roster and CAF is pretty good, but basically this isa button masher without the depth of Undisputed. the ground game is horrible, with one button guard passes, stupid mini game submissions, and just all around disregard for the intricacies of BJJ or even basicwrestling. Rent it, don't buy

I bought this game last night and it blows they did not change the deny rates on the ground so once you get their you are dead no chance to get out unless the guy is button mashing strikes and you get a lucky sweep but that doesn't happen much.

This game has the fixings of something great but fails due to the total stick control and how the submissions have to be pulled off. Graphics fall short compared to the other game.I want to be able to go from brutal stand up to punishing finish without having to deal with all the mess that these games have.I found it not fun and sent it back quick.I want it simple and fun.

I returned this garbage the same day i got it. i was looking forward to EA coming hot but this one is sadly bad bad bad.

I am so very depressed that this game sucked. I was really looking forward to trying out this game because I love fighting games and wanting to branch out from games such as Mortal Kombat and others like it. The controls were confusing and the AI's stamina would run out but never went down. NOT ONCE! It seemed like all I could do was button mashing. Now I enjoy button mashing as much as the next person. I am seriously going to rethink playing any other MMA games.

Pros:
- great fighter customization for career mode.
- career mode is solid, featuring different camps from around the world that you can train at. Plus, once you've completed a training mini-game, you can simulate and reap the benefits of whatever you scored.
- clinch and ground fighting look great, but the moves are limited on the ground.
- great roster (despite popular opinion) featuring Fedor, the Shamrocks, Randy Couture, Cung Le, Bas Rutten, and more.

Cons:
- the control scheme is complicated
- the striking is really bad; it is very hard to actually ko someone. Jabs and straights are apparently useless. Strikes can be interrupted if struck.

Final thoughts:
This game is a definite rent for any true mma fan, but I still would say that UFC Undisputed 3 is better. This game mainly shines in the clinch and ground fighting, which takes the fun away from being a striker. Also, there is very limited techniques and no knees from side-control.
