As a longtime DW fan I feel that extreme legends should now become a dlc. It is pretty much the same as DW8 just a few additional characters and some new modes. One thing that is cool that if you was unable to unlock some of the DW8 characters, they will be unlocked on DW8XL. I would not pay full price for this, but as a rental this is perfect! So get your fingers ready for a button mashing delight! Thank the gods for GF!

I love the Dynasty Warriors series and I was very excited to play this game. In my excitement I played some of the previous DW, SW, WO, even Kessan so I was more than excited for this game. Little did I know that all this game is is a dlc of DW8 and all that was added was new characters, weapons, battles, and LU Bu's story all of which SHOULD have been on DW8. I am tired of hearing and reading reviews that "This is the first game to have LU Bu's story" because that is not true his hypothetical story was on DW6, original battles he was in were on multiple DW games, and empires acts as a create your own story where he is a playable officer and ruler.
Now that I have that off of my chest, Xtreme Legends has 4 playable modes: legend, challenge, ambition, and free mode. Legend is just story mode but for some reason it only allowed me to do LU Bu's story, not any of the other options even though it showed them and loaded my saved file from DW8. The Lu Bu campaign is not too short, it took me a little over 6 hours to complete both the hypothetical and historical endings. Challenge mode is just a couple challenges like kill a certain number of enemies in a certain time, nothing special. Ambition mode is where you choose a character and build up your castle for the emperor but to build up the castle you must obtain resources to upgrade your shops, acquire fame, and recruit officers. Everything you must do to complete your castle is done by doing small battles to acquire these objects, overall the ambition mode experience is boring and lacking in spirit. Free mode allows you to choose a character and do battle after battle just because you can.
There is nothing special about this game and I am very disappointed with Koei for selling this game for full price when it is nothing more than a dlc. Play DW8, then this game and you will know exactly what I mean.

If you want to run Lu Bu's story, it is worth a rent, but otherwise it is the same game as last year. It will even transfer over the saved information from the last game if you have it.

The Lu Bu story is fun and just long enough before becoming repetitive. So I guess think of it as an add-on.
