Excellent

Much of the same, but much more polished.

First thing is first, if your looking for a really technical game then this is not for you. This is first and foremost the definition of a button masher game that can be rather challenging at the higher difficulties. Ok, so the pros and cons.

Pros-
Classic DW gameplay
New design sets for many of the characters
New outfits
New RPG element that was lacking in previous game
Extremely improved edit officer mode

Cons-
Repetitive at times
No cutscenes, while the voiceovers were korny I always liked them
Not enough central storyline, no real purpose for each differing level.

All in all, it is not a perfect game but offers a great load of fun when you wanna say "I am the 1000 man slayer" (Demon Eyes Kyo reference) as reaching 100 kills is definitely achievable.

Many people will cry and say how the game gets old, and that the story never changes. Which is true, the story is based off a historical fiction book, meaning it's based off historical facts. This classic, in-depth story won't change, ever. Read the book, or try playing Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Don't believe what people say on how this edition of DW6: Empires copies the rest.

Gameplay - 8/10
While there can be some improvements, Dynasty Warriors 6, and Empires, takes a huge step away from the last 5. The battle system carries on from Dynasty Warriors 6, with the renbu/skills system. But the Musou mode allows you to refine your weapon, boosting damage and adding skills and more special abilities, as a ruler, and added to this edition of Empires, you can also be an officer under a ruler, or just a freelance soldier. In Musou mode you can create friendship oaths, switch forces at any time, and even marry. Edit mode was added so you can design your own character, picking any weapon you want, and adding several different skills.

Story - 3/10
Dynasty Warriors 6: Empires doesn't focus on the story as much as KOEI's other series, "Romance of the Three Kingdoms", you'll often find yourself wondering why you're doing what you're doing. Which is why I've given it a 3. I've fallen in love with the story, after having read the book and playing Three Kingdoms. It's a timeless story and will never get old.

Graphics - 7/10
The graphics are great, but don't match other high-end games such as Gears of War 2.

Replay Value - 6/10
This is based on what you find fun, you either like killing hundreds of soldiers, or you get bored of it easily.

Overall - 8/10
As other reviews would say, the story doesn't change and the gameplay is repetitive but it's also fun. The game does change a lot from the last 5, so don't listen to other reviewers crying about the game didn't change, as they probably didn't even play it. It's worth at least a try.

This game is a hack and slash at its core. You may think it would get repetitive after a few hours of playing it, but after just a few minutes. You find that hacking your way through thousands of ancient chinese soldiers is extremely addicting and you feel like the strongest human in the world after you have 2000 kills from a single battle.
The Empire mode has greatly improved from the 5th one and has very fun aspects including Officer mode and Vagrant mode.
This game is for hack and slash lovers, and Dynasty Warrior fans alike.
