I started playing these games on the PS2, with the release of Dynasty Warriors 3. Since then, whenever a new one came out I would steal the copy from my local rental store and keep it for months. Truly, this game, along with the lot of them are utterly fantastic. It's fast paced action that just does not get old. I mean after playing it for an hour straight you get a bit tired and take a break but you can come back and mash your buttons at it for hours more.
It's redundant, violent, and seemingly pointless, which is great. But it also has a good story. And what keeps you hooked is the fact that each character, about 40 or so characters at that, has their own role in like 20 unique story lines. The fun part is unlocking characters, and in the process unlocking items and weapons to make yourself stronger.
As far as difficulty, you can set it at easy and complete the story mode in a few hours with ease. Also, if you're hardcore, like I am, you can flip on expert and all of a sudden each campaign takes like 2 hours and instead of 1 hit KOing 30 guys with one tap of the O button, you gotta pound em individually.
Great game, and I think 5 is the best in the series. Recommended for everyone.
