One of the first differences that you encounter is that you have an apprentice accost you as soon as you enter the town. Soon after you build up your first floor you'll encounter a monster who will become your partner. This creature will acquire the ability to transform into various monsters and gain experience both in your dungeons and in special dungeons(like the hidden dungeons in the original) where it will fight all alone. You also have the ability to create floors with special attributes such as fire and water which will then give you access to a new dungeon with those attributes. If you have played monster lair for the DS, there are many similarities. The hacking and slashing can become monotonous in this game just as the turn-based battles could in monster lair. The main things I definitely preferred in monster lair was the corridor building(you use a magic shovel with a limited number of magic points) and the monster transformation(it was transformed one part at a time so it could acquire the best attributes of several different monsters). The thing I prefer about this game is the ability to explore dungeons that you didn't create.
