It is a solid DQM game. If you liked the first Joker game you will like this one. The only reason why I am not giving it a higher mark is the amount grinding that you have to do in this game if you want the uber monsters and skills. For seasoned DQM gamers it is nothing new and odds are you wont mind it. For those of you who cant stand grinding I would not recommend you play this game.

I played this game over my trip across the country and i think it may be the best dragon quest game I have ever played, the variety of new monsters suprised me greatly, added to that the amount of sense that each monster made in each zone, for instance, the swarmtroop (flies) in the jungle, or the magmalice in the volcanic levels of the necropolis. There is also how well it flowed, there was little to no grinding at the beginning of the game and later on had very little because of the metal ticket/ metal menagerie aspect, the metal menagerie was amazing to cut grinding time by a ton. However the game was very much ruined by the final boss, "malevolnyx" a.k.a. leonyx, who upheld the dragon quest tradtion of being a boss that is nearly impossible to beat without a gameshark. One other thing that troubled me about this game and its predacessor is the synthesis system it has always bothered me that i have to give up my amazing level 6billion monsters to make ONE, count it ONE freaking level 1 monster that is slightly more powerful than the origional monsters level 1 stats, plus the fact that these monsters are ok with being melded together to make another monster, you have to admit, it sounds like something from a mad scientist horror movie right?! RIGHT!?, plus, how does it work with the monster's mind? Does the more dominant monster obtain control? Do the two monsters take turns? Is it a hive mind kind of thing? Or are all of the conciousnesses wiped away and replaced by a baby monster who knows how to blow things up and swing swords? I mean talk about a plot hole. So in the end with every thing considered I have to give this a 4, it flows well till the end, it has new monsters for old fans, however it still has one of those uber-overpowered bosses, and it still has the terrible synthesis system, I would recommend trying it, maybe youll find something that fills the plot holes and remember, everyone can make mistakes, so perhaps I have.
