Dragon Quest IX is a game like none other. The game's plot is that
Celestrians are collecting Benovelessence too go to a magical realm
by giving the offering to Yggsdrail. The starlight express arrives and
the observatory is hit by a purple ray. You, the fyggs, and the train
are plummeting down to earth, a while later you meet erinn who
works at the inn at Angel Falls, after learning about her fathers
past she heads to work at the Inn at Stornway. What you do is
protect the world from various monsters, like slimes, Hexagoons,
and the contagion. If you have played numerous games that are like
Final Fantasy, and Kingdom Hearts, and you know that this game
requires hard work, determination, team work, brain power and
strategy, then this game is for you. So good job Square Enix on
making Dragon Quest X, and good luck to the willing Dragon Quest
IX Sentinel of the Starry Skies Players. May the almighty watch over
ye childrens safe journey.
I played and this game for about 2-4 hours and I have to admit, it is a solid game for the DS. The only I wish is that I could customize my class for play in "singleplayer". I mean this as in I wish I could have chosen a predesigned class the could be played for the game, call me lazy if you must but I think that if your looking for a fun rpg for the DS with good quality and depth, go for this game. (graphics are really good as well, considering that it's from the DS.)
Let it be known I have never played the DQ games, so I have no idea what the previous games were like. In the early chapters of the game, I felt like it was a great game, with tons of customization, monsters, and dungeon crawling, and even if you did have to sometimes backtrack a bit so you could train a bit before taking on a boss, it was still a cool and awesome game. What annoyed me though, was that it seemed at time like an open-world fantasy game, which it wasn't. Realizing this made me a bit annoyed but I kept going with it.
Then I got to the point in which the storyline of the game got clear which inspried me to play more. After that, it all went downhill. First of all, changing your vocation set you back to level one which was a major setpback for my level 20 power minstrel, so whatever, I decided I'll keep with Minstrel vocation. Then I realized, to survive the next few boss battles, I have to get better armor, so I pay a visit to the armory, turns out the only good armor they have can only be worn by Warrior vocation characters.
The game is very good up until that point. Maybe you feel different, btu definitely rent this game before buying.
