good, but lacking for the hardcore fan

The game plays pretty well and the graphics are good. But, there are some very key areas that make this game boring. The cut sequences don't explain enough of what's going to first time players, which would make you think its geared towards people who know the story, but it's not good enough for even that. After skipping out on key sequences (like when Vegeta was beaten Oozaru Gohan), to completely jumping over when trunks arrives and the actual realization that Vegeta is his father. The story feels just as incomplete as a Soul Caliber or Tekken story.

There are many characters that should have been in the game as well. If they had the time to render characters, like cyborg Freeza and all of the characters from the Janemba arc, for the FMV cut scenes, they could have at least put them in. I realize that some of it may have been awaiting DLC, but that would bring up issues like, why pay for content that appears to be in the game already and, also, why is it not out 6 months after the release of the game?

Good, worth a rent, not a buy though.

Well I rented this game because the demo was a pretty fun thing to play, unfortunately I was extremely unimpressed by how just bland this game is. it has VERY odd learning curve. overall it was just another Fighting game and I kinda hoped it went further into the series. Some times it was very easy to win because of the simplicity for the controls. and it was difficult to get any kind of combination because of its simplicty. overall a mediocre game

So after spending some time with DBZBL I would have to say that i am disappointed. This is a game that should have been brought to PS3 and 360 years ago. Graphically speaking there are some really amazing things they have done, especially in the animation. Even though the graphics are good I still want the game to look like the opening to DBZBT2The fights can get furious with power, and speed. The menu screens and hud are nice touches. When a character transforms or hits a AURA spark it looks very good. There is great joy in launching a character into the sky and smashing the buttons to see who will win it out. Now the bad, I cannot figure out for the life of me why they came out with six games and now that we are on the big boy systems we are starting over and only including 2 sagas. If PS2 and the WII can handle over 100 characters and all the sagas why is the 360 and PS3 getting shafted? I understand we have to make money in the video game industry but come on. Is Bandai really going to make us buy each one of these games again slowly adding one saga at a time as they did with Bodakai. honestly i think its kind of insulting to do that to us the fans. The characters are overly recycled with the moves and the animations. Now yeah we all know a lot of the moves are being recycled but it is more noticeable in this game than ever. Its almost as if they got super lazy, let's throw this animation here give these 2 characters this move. they do a horrible job of telling the story. The stages, are you kidding me 5 stages? With color variations and sky. That is not good when on the PS2 you have stages that number in the double digits and were DESTRUCTIBLE! Where is the battle damaged models at? The fight system has gone all the way back to the stone age. I am very happy there is no more split screens but the fight engine in DBZBT2-3 felt fast, intense and you felt like a power house.
This is not the game I expected and its a disappointment to fans.

This game was fun. The fighting aspects were much like the older versions. I would have enjoyed it more if the story line went further into the Z sieres than it did.

This is a decent game, it is a Bandai game so be prepared for lame cut scenes. The fight scenes are nice looking and the graphics are pretty good, again, another GREAT game to rent, but not to buy!

Dragon Ball Z has admittedly lost some of its following in the wake of Naruto, Bleach, and Death Note. However, those still searching for the perfect Dragon Ball video game experience may find Burst Limit to be as close to our beloved anime as it gets.

The first thing you'll notice about Burst Limit is the gorgeous character models and fluid animation therein. This is the closest I've seen a Dragon Ball game get to emulating the show itself. My only qualm with the game is a lack of arenas in which to fight. The handful of stages and small character roster (Burst Limit (21) to Tenkaichi 3 (161)) is a bit disheartening to those who've played the Tenkaichi series, but the graphical detail present is really a sight to behold.

New to the series are 'Drama Pieces', triggered events that may actually alter the outcome of a battle by adding health, improving defense or attack, and even canceling an attack altogether. It adds a new element to battle that is most certainly a welcome experience to the story mode. Those wishing for a more pure fighting experience in versus mode may turn them off, but they are required in single player story.

Online versus works reasonably well but suffers from the same connectivity problems found with every other game offering a similar feature. Call of Duty 4, Grand Theft Auto 4, Burst Limit, and any other game relies upon your own internet connection, the opponent's internet connection, as well as the distance between the two. If both opponents have a good connection and are a relatively short distance away (same country, state, etc), prepare for a great experience.

Burst Limit is a great game for fans of the series, but a little harder to get into for new comers as the story mode doesn't explain a whole lot. The controls are easy to get used to, but difficult to master. It's a rewarding title for those willing to put in the effort.

See you online! KAMEHAMEHAAAA!!

This game dissapointed me in more ways then one. I am a hardcore fan of the series which is probly why i expected better but in all honesty this game is flat out bad. Repeated cutscence, below average fighting system, short storyline (less then 5 hours worth of gameplay in story mode) so for you that love the series like me this game will just make you angry. Yeah the Sayian Saga, Namek Saga, and Cell saga are cool but where is the Buu Saga i mean at least end it at the end of Dragonball Z. I like the cinematics but not in the middle of battle its frustrating. Overall if you want a good DBZ game go buy Tencaichi 3 for ps2 =]

Same old Dragonball Z fighter

This Dragonball Z fighter is just like the Tenchiichi series just simplified. This game has no difficulty curve in terms of moves. Once you have memorized how to move and attack, there is little more that can be done. The story was a good part of the game and was like a condensed version of the series. Other than that, it is just not enough to keep my interest.

when I bought this game,I was thrilled.when I got home I was angry with this.fighting is fine, multiplayer is fine, but lack of stages, lack of character, lack of difficulty, lack of storyline is what really got me mad.they play the same scenes over and over, which got me furious,I beat it an about 3 hours, and wait till you catch this,in dbzbt3 they had 161 characters, but in dbzbl they had 21!whats up with that?ps2 could handle 8x the characters in burst limit.the only way to have fun with this is online.I have one question, what happened?

The game itself was graphically superb to any other DBZ game out there. The game however was way to short, and In my opinion too easy. I played through the entire game in just over 3 1/2 hours. That is just not enough time. A great game if you like standard arcade fighters, but maybe this series isn't meant for the next gen era.

The king of cut scenes...

This game is bad. The fighting is fine and the controls are fine but that is about it. It works ok for multiplayer but it brings nothing new to the table as a fighter. The voice acting is atrocious and the graphics really are not as good as I had hoped. There is a horrendous amount of cut scenes in every part of the game. You will have to bear several terrible cut scenes over and over and over again during the middle of the fights themselves! They don't even use different cut scenes! Most of the cut scenes are the same thing repeated from several times before and they are absolutely pointless! A cut scene can interrupt one of your more powerful moves and take the damage you deal down to nothing at all if it comes at the wrong time. Sometimes the cut scene will say they are gonna do something huge but it never happens! Its like they put the cut scene there for...I don't know what for...they have absolutely no purpose at all. At the end of every fight you see the same cut scene...every time without fail it is the same lame cut scene. Nothing ever changes. In between fights you get bits and pieces of the story but it is so incomplete it is hard to grasp what is going on. I can only imagine how it must feel to someone who hasn't seen the series. Even then the acting is so bad and the voice overs so ridiculous its hard not to laugh. I found myself skipping through everything because it was so annoying. This game doesn't deserve any of the hype it got. It is a failure. Rent it for yourself but I do not recommend it to anybody but the hardcore DBZ crowd.

Falls short of the original

I had played the original Dragon Ball z game for ps2 before ps3 came out and LOVED the game. The original showed the whole story from the anime cartoons from beginning up to Cell and cell games. It showed how goku (kakrot) first came to earth and fought vegeta. I just wish that the creators could go back to the drawing board. The controls for the first game were similar to a street fighter with each character having different button combinations to do moves, but not in this. If you are a poor gamer and have to use the same buttons for every character because your memory sucks, or you are not intelligent enough to play mortal kombat, soul caliber, and street fighter then this game is perfect for the weak minded. Hope you get a seizure from the flashes.

To me this game was a lot like Super Dragonball Z. Like Super DBZ, and Sagas this is probably just a waiting game. I mean it is just to keep people entertained for the next game. Although being on the PS3 and 360 means that the DBZ games are going to be on the PS3 and 360. The best thing about this game is probably that the PS3 lets it have the best graphics out of all the Dragonball z games.
