If not for the huge amount of options you receive to change the course of the game, I'd be on the fence about Dragon Age. However, this game provides a massive amount of role-playing options as mentioned in other various reviews (especially near the end, your decisions make a huge impact).
In light of all the praise, I'll detail some disappointment.
One, you spend a LOT of time on the loading screen, to the point where it hindered the flow at times. I'm a player who really likes to explore everything and will backtrack often. Basically, every time you want to enter a single room area you are stuck with the loading screen. If you enter a tavern or other structure that has multiple rooms, you get an even longer loading screen. It got to the point where I based some decisions on whether I wanted to sit on loading screens or just move on. That's a problem for me.
Second, your first time around is a bit frustrating not knowing how to build your character and your party members' talent trees. That's not necessarily a fault of Bioware, that's how these games go. However, I would have liked to have been able to either be charged by some character, sold a book or whatever at a certain stage(s) to be able to reshape my talent trees once I got an idea of how I wanted my characters played and after I'd acquired a few other group members. It's rather annoying at 20 hours to know you screwed up the first few levels not knowing what to do with your points or getting another character built similar to you.
Lastly, the graphics seem dated. However, I can't fault them much for it as it wasn't enough to detract from the terrific storyline. It still had a pretty good, gritty, dark feel to it. Though, some of the animation cut scenes were definitely hindered by the weak graphics.
Otherwise, excellent combat system, totally engaging story and HUGE replay value. Definitely highly recommended despite the complaints.

This game is really really good. What you would expect it to be and more.... If you are a fan of Bioware then you will not be disappointed. Also, I believe its replay value is a lot higher than most critics give it credit for. A must rent and possibly a must own for all RPG fans.
