Good filler rental title

This is one of those old mediocre games you rent between better games. I've never played Doom 3 before except a few minutes as a slideshow on a bad PC.
It's pretty much go through a corridor that looks like the other corridors, have enemies spawn in the corner behind you, get a keycard to progress, rinse & repeat. Doom 3 is about 12 hours of that and it wears thin. I was ready to end it after five hours, but I didn't want to waste a rental.
The enemies don't react to your bullets, but it's no big deal, this is a 2004 game. They also smack you a lot, which makes your screen tilt diagonally every time, which is REALLY annoying when they corner you.
The graphics and presentation are pretty good. Except for the low res textures, the graphics, especially lighting hold up pretty well. They did a good job cleaning it up. If you're a Dead Space fan, you can see where Visceral took the good parts of Doom 3 (atmosphere, gore, sci-fi set pieces) and made it a lot better (adding a real plot, characters, etc).
The story? Well, a random marine tells you to go from Point A to Point B. You fight an underworld beast and it just sort of ends. The sense of progression is pretty bad. There are no decent plot points or interesting objectives to distract you from the repetitiveness.
Resurrection of Evil and The Lost Mission are actually much better. RoE has a much tighter pace, good boss fights, and some interesting gameplay mechanics like the Grabber and an artifact that slows down time. You'll get around five hours from RoE and two from TLM.
I played Doom I and II for a few minutes, but I didn't care for them as they've aged too much. The Doom 3 MP was fairly dead and pretty darn boring.
The whole package is good for about 20 hours of old-fashioned gameplay.
