It's a very good game, and well made, but, if you've played "Donkey Kong Country Returns" on Wii or 3DS, don't expect anything new. It's basically just more of the same, except I thought "DKC Returns" was better. That's not to say that you shouldn't bother with this otherwise excellent game. Just don't go in looking for a dramatic shake-up.
This game is true to the Donkey Kong series in every way (I loved playing it on super nintendo when I was a kid). Many of the previous elements like red balloons, 'Rambi the Rhino', and "Evil Boss going out of his way to pick on Donkey Kong -just because-" make a return (haha).
Playing it was nostalgic, and the newer mechanics (like climbing ceilings, co-op moves, etc) make the game much more appealing than the older ones, but it didn't feel new. After playing it with my cousin for an hour, the game became less and less fun, and we pretty much dropped our controllers and gave up.
This game is definitely directed towards a newer generation of gamers among others who still find joy in the series. Unfortunately, I don't fit the category. Even with that said, do not let this discourage you from renting this game, but just know what to expect if you've already played the originals.
