Bartleby (Ben Affleck) and Loki (Matt Damon) are two angels who were booted from heaven by God for going against God's wishes. They were banished to the only place worse than the Pit - Wisconsin. When they receive a newspaper clipping stating every sin is washed away when you pass through the gate of a hundred-year-old church, they decide to head to New Jersey to attempt to sneak back into heaven. The Metatron (Alan Rickman), also known as the Voice of God and God's personal assistant, informs Bethany (Linda Fiorentino), the last remaining relative of Jesus Christ, that she must stop the angels. If she doesn't, they will prove God fallible and the world will end! Hijinks ensue in this hilarious romp through the meaning of religion, faith, and friendship.
