I too, found that the difficulty of this game was exaggerated. I am an avid RPG player and thought that the game-play was great. I did not encounter any bugs or problems with game saves as others stated. I was perfectly able to target enemies by using the LT button. I also did not find that there was any lack of potions or food in the game. The graphics and character design are not great, but I don't mind that as long as the game is not boring. If you like RPGs, give this a try. I don't think you will be disappointed. Tons of side quests which are essential to building your levels to progress. Good story, nice surprise ending. I would definitely choose to put my skill points into dexterity and archery skills if you find melee to be hard. I played through the game both ways and I would have to agree with other reviewers that mage or archery skills can save you during some of the harder areas. Also be sure to get your creature as soon as you can. It helps a great deal as well. Overall a good game. Reminded me of Sacred 2, Dragon Age, etc..

I was slightly apprehensive after reading all the reviews of this game. However, after playing through the first hour or so I found myself addicted. The storyline was good, the NPCs entertaining, and the combat system was surprisingly complex. This is a game about exploration, side quests, and minutae.
I have heard that the game was hard, but as long as you complete all the side quests and constantly upgrade and fiddle with your armor and weapons, I found it to be pleasantly entertaining.
The two faults I would find with it were the graphics weren't quite what I expected, and some minor glitching. Save OFTEN! Everyonce and a while the game would freeze up, or I'd fall through solid ground, or go shooting up into the sky. Not frequently enough to ruin the game, but I did lose one of my favorite weapons after forgetting to save after I received it.
Overall I enjoyed this game much more than I thought I would, and eagerly await the next Divinity game.
