Dishonored isn't a bad game by any means. But it's not the holy grail it's been made out to be.
It's quite fun, reminds me a lot of Time Splitters with a heavy Bioshock influence as well as some Fallout (Obsidian) mechanics thrown in. The sneaking/multipath levels is pretty cool too.
The graphics are a bit weak. The artstyle and design is cool, but takes some getting used to.
The game plays smooth and provides some decent variety. I like the Hitman approach where you have the option of being super stealthy assassin, or total action hero assassin.
But, it reminds of me RAGE actually, in the sense that the game feels more like a prototype for what could eventually be an amazing game, but this isn't it. Mostly because there's a lot of decent ideas thrown in with a pretty weak story that just serves as a vehicle to try out these ideas, but none of them are completely fleshed out.
If this had come out at a better time, say the beginning of summer, or even the end of summer, it could have justified more attention and credit. But, it's time for the holiday heavy hitters and this game simply can't compete with the likes of Borderlands 2, Assassin's Creed III, COD, and the like.
If you have the time, this is definitely a game worth checking out at some point. But don't miss out/delay your time for something better.
If you have to decide between this or RE6, pick this. Yeah, the former was supposed to be one of those heavy hitters, but man oh man, was that a miss.
