Reviewing Disgaea infinite as a game is completely wrong, because it's not actually a game. Disgaea Infinite is a form of popular media over in Japan called Graphic Novels. These are sorta like choose your own adventure books. To bad that it's still not to good.
You play as a prinny who is tasked with stopping an assassination attempt on Larharl, or loose his salary. There really isn't much to the story, unfortunately an in-depth story in very impotent to graphic novels. another important thing is that each choice should lead to other choices all leading to a large array of endings. In Infinite, for the first half you can get one ending of the 14, and any wrong decision will make you start over. the second half is a bit better since there are twelve possible endings. I know what your thinking at this point, Isn't the humor enough rent the game and use a guide? But unfortunately there are very few original jokes most are ones that have been used in the main games to much better effects.
Character wise you have Laharl, Etna, Flonne, Thursday, Jenifer, and Gorden from the original Disgaea game. Mao and Beryl from Disagaea 3 along with Asagi. the voice acting for these characters are great. but Mao and Beryl really don't fit in, and be warned if you haven't played Disgaea 3, these characters will completely confuse you.
The best part of the game has to be the data base which gives a nice look into the Makai Kingdom universe not yet seen in any other game.
Unfortunately this game ends up being something that should have just been a flash game. Interesting premise with how you watch the story from different vantage points, but there comes a point where you just don't want to hear about an exploding pudding anymore.
No real gameplay. The game is an intentional repetitive affair. You might play this for 15-30 minutes and then you're done. Not worth your time in my opinion, it could have just been a 20 minute anime and been more worthwhile.
This is a very funny game, but this is NOT an action game it is more of a mystery with many references to other games in the Disgaea series. But you are not allowed to complain that it was "too boring" or "not enough action" THATS THE POINT! But yes, a very very very good game.
Disgaea Infinite is NOT an action-adventure game. You play a funny little penguin thing called a Prinny, who must earn enough money to be reincarnated. However when his boss, the Overlord Laharl, explodes all of the Prinnies lose their salaries. Prinny then finds a magic pocket watch that allows him to possess people in order to change the past so that he doesn't lose his salary.
This game is actually one of those choose-your-own-adventure type deals where you use deductive reasoning along with trial-and-error (well, mostly trial and error) in order to solve the mystery and get the good ending.
I will admit there are a lot of funny scenes in this game and that's probably the main point. But I'm not a huge Disgaea fan so it's not like I'm going to enjoy watching these characters be silly for very long. Maybe if I would have played all the other Disgaea games and became a huge fan, I would love this game, but sadly that's not the case.
If you loved the other Disgaea games, then this is one funny piece of fan service. If not, just watch a funny movie.
#1 :It required 24 hours of anger and boredom for me #2 : You have to deal with restarting all your hard work about 2-3 times before you the video game owner/renter can actually start playing the game #3 : You play a sad little prinny who try's to save a demon who yells out I'VE BEEN ASSASSINATED whenever he eats an explosive pudding.
