Disgaea 2: Dark Hero Days Review

Digaea 2: Dark Hero Days is a remake of the original Disgaea 2, and it improves upon the original in every way. Disgaea 2: Dark Hero Days has a new mode called Axel Mode (The Original Dark Hero), similar the how Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness had it's special Etna Mode, which allows you to use the engine from Disgaea 3 on the PSP. Something that is really cool in Disgaea 2 is the ability to make Generic Characters and level up those characters to make different ranks of those characters that are even stronger than the original. This game also, surprisingly enough, looks AND plays better than the original Disgaea 2. Below, I will provide a basic 1-10 scale of rating each aspect of the game.

Graphics: 9/10
The game looks amazing, and the fact that it looks better on the PSP is astonishing, but, you gotta admit it, the sprites could look better. Also, some of the 3D textures look worse than other new PSP games. Also, sometimes you can't see what is happening since the camera is in a bad spot. Furthermore, you can't see an enemy every once in awhile since he's in a blind spot.

Gameplay: 10/10
Disgaea has always been praised for it's awesome and epic gameplay, and Disgaea 2 for the PSP is no exception. The gameplay is just as addicting as before, and even adds the engine from Disgaea 3 to the PSP version, which allows tons of more possibilities.

Sound/Music: 8.5/10
There are some great songs in this game, but since you're going to be doing some power leveling you might get sick of the music after awhile. Try putting the PSP on mute if you get sick of it.

Replay Value: 10/10
Once you beat the game, you won't want it to end. If you're like me you might wanna beat it about three times, so that you can unlock EVERYTHING. Also, if there are times when you can obtain an alternate ending, SAVE. There are seven alternate endings, so unless you want to restart the game each time you should save frequently.

Overall: 9.4/10

Thanks for Reading!

One of, if not the best SRPGs ever

I have been a long time fan of Disgaea, and this re-release is still a worthy title even for second time buyers. Even beating the first Disgaea in terms of quality.

Most of the game is good. Deep mechanics that any veteran SRPG player will love add a difficulty that is challenging and fun. Never had I had so much fun being beaten only to come back wanting to become stronger.

To me, Disgaea 2 is almost like Shougi in the way that different play styles yield different results. Going all out with attack may work for some opponents, but without creating your own tactics, you are guaranteed to lose a lot. But this is where the true fun begins. You learn how to think ahead, predict moves of the enemy, and know who to sacrifice.

Story wise, it is amazing. Not like epic amazing, but rather, funny amazing. The story is full of personality, and that alone should be reason enough to want to push through to the end no matter how hard you may find it. The hours of grinding truly pay off when you reach a cut scene as the voice actors bring all the characters to life with such superb quality that it puts most other RPGs to shame.

Really, the only bad part I can think of is more of a bad thing for casual players. The amount of time needed to enjoy and beat the game is a little off putting for some.

But, all in all, if you are looking for a deep, difficult and rewarding game, Disgaea 2 is for you. While your at it, you might as well get the first one also, as it is also of high quality.

In this game there is so much stuff you can do it's amazing. just trying to get all the items can take forever. not to mention the character possibilities, And the level 9999 max means for serious level grinding. My save file in this game has about 780 hours on it and i haven't even gotten 1 lvl 9999.
