I've never played a single Deus Ex game until now, mostly because my parents would never let me own a Mature rated game like ever. I got this game recommended by a friend, who said this game precedes the other two games story wise, which made for a good start. I gave it a try, and while I'm not a fan of FPS' I did find this enjoyable, being able to choose my play style and the challenge and good writing this had. Not only that, I love the music, it's so fitting with the cyberpunk thing this game and series has going on. Oh yeah, cyberpunk, that's a sci-fi genre I enjoy, and for those who enjoy cyberpunk should play this game as well. The character designs, backgrounds, and color palettes are also gorgeous and fitting of the game. I can't think of other things to say about this game, just that it's fantastic and I highly recommend it.
Really wanted to give it an 8 or 9. Its on the verge, two steps away from being one of the epic games. It doesn't belong the highest tier of games yet, despite being really close. Very few games do though in my opinion.
However, If you drop it into the next category, the obviously worth playing category. Its certainly right at the top of that. Most of the things I don't like are because there was so much potential and certain things just weren't finished right. Especially the Wii U tablet functionality. It is so, so, very close to being a brilliant example of utilizing the tablet.
Except!, it interupts the game. In most cases, touching the gamepad is equivalent to hitting the pause button. Going into detailed inventory, quest details, augments...etc all stop the game. The TV blurs and the great viewing system on the gamepad with touchscreen inventory organizing is made pointless. Also, the map that you can draw on and share is a great idea but certain lapses in functionality make it feel unfinished.
Positives: Big map, Lots to do including many distractions from the main storyline, some really great innovations using the Wii U gamepad, awesome upgrade system (hero and weapon) and plenty of in game choices
Negatives: soooo close to being epic in many areas but falls just short, weapon upgrade could be more complex, gamepad menus stop game,

i bought deus ex hr when it first came out a couple of years back. i love the wii u edition since it allows complete usage of the game pad and it makes hacking so much more fun. the energy system in this game has been redone as well. buying the directors cut comes with all the dlc that has been released in the past. the game offers a lot of replay ability since every situation can be handle multiple ways. great graphics and amazing story line. this is my pick for game of the year and i highly recommend this game. boss fights are also re done which is nice since that was my biggest gripe of the original release
