If there's one word I could use to sum up Def Jam Fight for New York it would be WOW. This game is incredibly deep. First off, the story starts were the last game ended, but instead of fighting against D-Mob you create your own character and fight with him. There's quite a few ways to build your character's style too. Whether it's clothing, jewelery, tattoos, or his fighting styles and special moves. In this game you can have four special moves assigned at once(and believe me there's a lot to choose from). There are also five fighting styles; kickboxing, street fighting, martial arts, wrestling, and submission, each having their own strengths and weaknesses. There are a ton of cool match types to pick from and 72 characters (not including the ones you create in story mode). You can use a lot of things in the environment to your benefit while fighting; walls fences, weapons, jukeboxes, pool tables, even do a double team move with the crowd. The only problems I really had with the game were the slight learning curve with the controls (they aren't like any normal fighting or wrestling game, but I got used to it after a while), and why did they change Manny's character so much? Overall I'm very glad I rented this game and I'll definitely end up buying it. I give it a 10, out of 10.
I STILL pick this game up and play it with my friends ALL THE TIME! There hasn't really been a better Brawlfest since this game came out. No game is more brutal, has the balls that this game has, has the graphics this game has, or even has the high flying action this game has. There really still to this day hasn't come a more addictive 4 player fighting game. The way the game has many modes a decent soundtrack a very VERY large 60+ Character Roster. The create a character system is still good but lacks compared to games like Soul Calibur 4. This game is still way better then Def Jam Icon because of it's 4 player and I usually play this game more then any other 4 Player game when my friends come over and want a brawl. We barely play anything else despite having over 15 other 4 player fighting games. GGX Isuka, SSBB, Naruto CONR2, Shrek Superslam, Digimon Rumble Arena 2, Onimusha Blade Warriors,TMNT, Viewtiful Joe Red Hot Rumble, Custom Robo, Gotcha Force, etc, etc, etc. This game even has ok plotline for a fighting game, and the ability to hook up with girls to unlock them in other modes, of course you get to fight in girl on girl brawls too in order to keep your girl. Lose the match and you get the ugly one. You pick a girl when you fight Nyne and win her if you beat him, later on you pick another and use the girl you picked to beat the other girl you picked, lose and you get neither, you get the girl Shaniqua, the same one you would get for losing to Nyne. Unlock Arenas by busting people up in them in story mode or via points in VS modes. The only flaw this game has is unlocking the other game modes requires Story Mode. Everything else can be unlocked in VS modes, There is also the Window Match where you throw ppl through the window by busting them up against it. My favorite Arena would have to be the Subway Arena where you can throw ppl out and watch them get ran over by the Subway Train. I also like The Limit because of the Spots like the pool table and jukebox
