Don't listen to these other guys. Even though I have never played a console Def Jam before I know enough that this game is solid on the PSP. Everything is here right down to your customizable characters and unlockables. It even has an extras mode to view concept art and what not. The story is pretty simple and just like DJ for PS2: You're a gangbanger who has to take over all the hoods of the East side. There is no spoken dialogue. Just a few comic style scenes peppered throughout. Before each fight you and the opponent have a dialogue box dis. Which are all pretty freaking lame! I mean what's "Don't be hatin' fool! You better watch out befo I throw a fist in yo' grill! Recognize!" LAME! The best part about this game though is the fighting and the way you can combine all the fighting styles. For some reason it's just very satisfying to watch your character reverse a grab jab and punch a few times then do a nice grapple move. The animations are solid and fluid and aren't canned or jerky. The graphics are great if it weren't for the "jaggies". Even though the game DOES get repetitive after awhile even if you have 3 fighting styles for your character and all stats up and you're totally "blinged" out. The difficulty is way unbalanced. One fight will be easy and you can KO an opponent in a few hits then the next you can't get one hit out of the guy. It's either that or cheap AI. All the same stuff from DJFFNY for PS2 is here (as far as I know). The controls do take a long time to get used to if you're new to these games. It took me almost 3 hours to get used to the controls but after that they are fluid and are responsive; on the dot. Overall Def Jam for PSP is a must rent...maybe even a buy if you are a Def Jam nut. Pick this one up and you'll be very pleased!
