So im a huge fane of DMC and its easy to see the parralels between the two games. I loved the witticisms of DP and the combat was smooth. The only real problem with the game is that just about as soon as you start getting into the flow of just how awesome DP really is, the games over, for realsies. It took me no time at all to run through the first time on normal difficulty, and when i played through on the extra violence difficulty it was refreshingly difficult. Even though thats all good, i still managed to beat both settings, and the challenge maps in about 3 days, and thats not even playing all day.
First upfront I am a Marvel fan. That being said i know Deadpool I have always liked Deadpool so my bar is high yet I am grading based on a bias. This game is exactly what a Deadpool game should be. It hits all the marks. It has a bunch of random things and you have Deadpool and the developers making fun of the game throughout. It never takes itself serious at all yet it remains fun. I was able to play through on the middle setting in one day with a few breaks no issues( except one reset but the game autosaves frequently and I blame xbox. Was a nonissue)Replayed a level or two on low after with upgrades still in place and it was a slaughter fest but in a fun way. Didn't try hard. Game is just about right on hardness and is funny and fun through switching up things poking fun at the game development process. I want to give this an 8.5 honest but 9 might be a bit much. In fact I'll switch to a 9 to compensate for the haters. I would normally only reserve a 9 for a super epic game but this game in its category hits all the notes. I never felt frustrated but there were challenging parts. The audio was good the graphics what you would expect and the game play was fine. There is a progression system that lets you buy new guns and upgrade them. Nothing feels worthless or gratuitous or the same. Honest a bunch of fun. Maybe shortish if you consider a play through was done in a day with no multiplayer but that is fine by me given the price now. Was this a $65 title no. Was it a $40 title maybe day 1, $30 probably a few months in, anything less definitely anytime. One of the better games I played. Straight foward entertaining and not frustrating. A good way to spend an afternoon with a beloved character who is portrayed perfectly.
Should preface this review/score with the fact that I love mindless Hack-N-Slash games.
Now that's out of the way I have to say this game was fantastic. Everything from the story line to the combat system was great.
Let's start with the story line. Deadpool has a very specific style of writing and I have to say this video game nailed what it is like to read the comics in every way. Irreverent humor, breaking the fourth wall, interactions with cable, and Marvel cameo's? It's all there. The best part of a Deadpool story line is that it really doesn't have to make sense, it just has to be funny and engaging, which it is.
The combat system is also a shining gem. It appears the developers wanted to strike a balance for both the casual hack-n-slash player as well as the combo hungry people who love upgrading their weapons/character (I fall somewhere in between). Near the end of the game levels actually become challenging, which is a refreshing change of pace from normal hack-n-slash games where the difficulty stays fairly consistent throughout.
If your looking for a fun and engaging game that doesn't' involve much thought, but is still all the way through look no further.
