I've been badly disappointed by Mass Effect 2 and 3, let down by Dragon Age II, cried a little on the inside about how Prototype 2 was a pale shadow of its predecessor.
My faith in humanity is now restored - Darksiders II is fantastically great and manages to surpass even the fabulous first Darksiders in every way. And that was a hard bar to clear.
The graphics engine is breathtaking (best ever seen in terms of detail rich open environments with lovely shading, no tearing, aliasing artifacts or stuttering), the gameplay is rock-solid (never got bored, variation of available tools and environments, rich weapons and fighting systems), the automatic save system and incremental loads make the action almost continuous, the art is amazing (really, this is not just the graphics, but the way the environment and characters have been put together and animated - you'll keep staring at the screen for hours just because stuff is so suprisingly awesome), the musical score is inspired, varied and always perfectly matched to the action (makes a huge difference in games that do this well) and the story is well thought out, convincing, motivating and consistent.
The game has a lot of content and more in DLCs - and in this case, it is really worth downloading.
The Darksiders I & II combo has managed to become my favorite game series on the 360; it's unusual to see such a perfect combo.
You know, it's always frustrating when you are playing a game that had all kinds of hype behind it and is a sequel to a really good game, but ends up being a piece of junk! Such is the case with Darksiders 2. I really like the first one so I figured the second would be good, but I have to say that I was terribly mistaken. The graphics suck almost to the point where it looks like an old PS2 game and the controls are far from responsive. I play tons of games and I have been playing since I was a kid and I know the difference between a really good game and a rushed attempt at capitalizing on the success of the first in a series. If they continue the series, I really hope they get back to the basics of the flow of the first game.
