Not the Sensation That it Should Be

Dance Sensation promises to be a great game for girls who love to show their stuff on the dance floor. Problem is, they have to deal with inaccurate controls in this game, and not in real life.
Dance Sensation has four types of music - Jazz/Rock, Ballet, Hip Hop, and Latin. You pick a type of music, and the game will teach you how to perform some of the dance steps in a set (it ranges between two and four dance sets per set).
For each dance step, it shows you how to move the controllers and lets you practice it until your avatar (a tween girl) does the dance step right ten times.
Then, the game asks you to do the steps one right after another in a classroom setting
Then, the game asks you to do the steps one right after another in front of a crowd (not shown on camera)
When you get through that, and get a medal or trophy, you start over again, and learn another set of dance steps
This process goes over and over again until you get all of the steps of a style of dancing. When you do, you get to choreograph your own routine or take on another style of music.
But there are problems with the process. The game starts off easy enough with just using the Wiimote or Nunchuck for the early dance steps.
However the later sets of steps get really tough - namely the one where you have to spin the Wiimote and Nunchuck in a circle while holding one of them level and holding the other down low. This can really frustrate the target audience.
And for those players not into dancing, this game will not encourage them to take up dancing anytime soon.
But the biggest problem this game is the bad recognition it has to the controls. In the later dance steps, I would be moving the Wiimote/Nunchuck just like the game asked, but it would not respond to the correct gestures - and it would not explain why it would not respond to the correct gestures.
Dance Sensation has some great ideas, but it’s narrow appeal and control issues sink the game. SKIP IT.

I have a 6 and 4 year old. The control were not very intuitive. I was hoping it would instruct how to dance and track movement, but you only swing your arms around. Also, only girl avatars. Just Dance is way better.
