A real cult favorite

It's a shame this game isn't rentable, because I think like a cult film, it's really found a second life post-release. The game plays very much like a combination of Magic: The Gathering and Monopoly. Monopoly: The Gathering.
The campaign is atrocious, don't get me wrong. The writing is awful, the characters are annoying. It would be nice if the game had done well enough to warrant the kind of post-release content and support that something like MTG: Duels of the Planeswalkers warrants.
But for sitting down and playing with friends, if the game falls into your sweet spot (and judging by the cost of a used copy of this game on eBay, or the fact that Gamestop doesn't have a used copy within 100 miles of where I live - Minneapolis, MN, not exactly the wilds - it hits this sweet spot for a lot of gamers) you'll find that it's got a charm that's hard to overlook.
It's a very simple conceit; you build up a deck of collectible cards, ala Magic, then play a board game that's very much in the vein of Monopoly. Claim control of a location by planting a creature card there, and if someone lands on it later they can pay the toll or battle you for control of the spot.
Very simple, but very fun and addicting. The campaign probably warrants a 5 or a 6, but in terms of simple, brilliant concept and how much fun it is to play with friends, and the fact I knew the minute I picked it up that this was one not to trade in, I have to give it an 8.
If you find a copy ask yourself a simple question: does a mash-up of Magic and Monopoly sound awesome? If so, this game is well worth tracking down.
