I admit, it could be I just finished this game, but I really liked it. I haven't been this scared by a video game since the Fatal Frame games, all of which were really scary, too.
The pacing is very slow. I didn't mind this, but it's worth noting, because if you're looking for fast-paced action, this game isn't for you. There's a "sprint" button, but it only gives you about 8 seconds of "sprint" and it's more like a jog.
However, I hardly used that sprint button. For the most part, I took it nice and slow, trying to figure out where the next scary moment would come from so I wouldn't throw my controller in fright.
The graphics are wonderful. Everything is deeply shadowed, with light effects really being the star of the game - these shadows work just like real shadows, so when you walk in front of a window with a light source behind it, everything in front of you is cast in a you-shaped shadow.
Combat's great, too, because you're limited to the ammo you find in a gun (only one bullet left in that revolver? No thanks!) and other environmental pieces you can use as weapons, like pipes, locker doors, and (my personal favorite) fire axes.
There are a lot of achievements to unlock and extras to find, too, which can keep you coming back. If you like survival horror games, this is one of the best. Don't miss it.
