Prince Caspian falls short of it's royal heritage

Since Traveler's Tales developed this and based it on it's hugely successful LEGO formula, I had high-hopes for the co-op play with my wife. However, the game feels rushed, the puzzles feel tedious, and there is a lot of back-tracking. Luckily the game is relatively short and you get an ample amount of Gamerscore by just playing the game.

The hugely successful LEGO formula is tweaked a little for Prince Caspian, however, the tweaks do not make enhancements to the gameplay. Button prompts flash on the screen indicating what you need to do. Instead of just pressing B to pull a lever like past LEGO games, you are then asked to tap A repeatedly to "pull" the lever. You are also asked to do additional tasks to throw the grapple, manually block attacks, etc.

I think this game would have benefited more by staying true to the co-op LEGO gameplay mechanics that are so popular. Co-op segments become difficult as the game tries to keep you extremely close together. Think Lego Star Wars 2, and with the advancements we have seen since then, this is inexcusable.

If you are a die-hard Narnia fan, this is probably worth a rent since it's around 6-8 hours of play-time. If you are an achievement junkie looking for a quick 700+ point fix, this game is for you. If Lego Star Wars 2 irked you with its gameplay quirks, this game will likely irk you as well. The polish from the latest Traveler's Tales games is missing, and this game like so many movie-tie-ins feels rushed. The game had a good premise, but just is lacking the polish that this game needed to bring it up from bad to mediocre.

Flawed but can be fun to fans of movie

If you are a fan of the movie and don't mind some of the game glitches and flaws, then you might have some fun with this game.

If you are not a fan, don't bother.

The game is plagued by a very very bad camera. It is the worst camera in a game that I have had to deal with in years. You can't really turn or adjust the angle of the camera. Which means many times you are forced to play where you can't even see. There is no way to turn off the mini map, so combine that with the bad camera, and you really have a hard time in a lot of places.

The controls for some weapons are great. But why they felt the need to assign some weapons to same buttons I don't know. Many times when you are trying to use a hook and toss it up to climb up ropes or pull down pillars, the game uses a sword. They are both assigned to the same button. Which leads to a lot of health loss and characters taking damage.

There are a lot of characters from the movie. You aren't stuck playing just the same ones through out the game. Each level/mission you are given different combinations of characters. Which helps break up the repetitive gameplay.

The puzzles are just really annoying. There are no point to them. They are just there to waste your time. I hate pointless puzzles like that.

The game does have a lot of the movie clips within it. So fans of the movie will see a lot of the more important scenes. I did rather enjoy that.

The game is rather short. It took me about 5 or so hours to finish with all the achievements done. Definitely a rental only game.

All in all, fans will have a bit of enjoyment if they can get past the flawed camera and terrible weapon controls. If you are not a fan, don't rent.

+ I've never seen the movie, but I found this to be a fun game...especially to play with my kids
+ About 10 hours of play to explore everything and earn yourself 1000 gamer points
+ A fair amount of ACTUAL movie clips keeps things interesting

- Co-op can be a bit tricky since you're both on the screen at the same time..split screen would have worked better
- No online play - not even for co-op
- The button mashing just to flip a switch or open a chest gets old really fast

Bottom Line: Throughly fun game, but with no multiplayer or DLC add ons I can see no reason to own this game. Certainly worth a rental though especially if you have kids.
