This is how you do it!

Now, pay attention, all you filmmakers out there aspiring to reboot a timeworn movie franchise. This is how you do it! In giving us the excellent "Casino Royale", James Bond's eternal caretakers have set the gold standard for the reinvention of a beloved character. After the over-the-top excess present in "Die Another Day" (the Bond film preceding this one), Bond's caretakers managed to bring the franchise back down to earth in an eloquent and artful way, and, best of all, they didn't throw the baby out with the bathwater. Yes, Bond's world is darker and grittier now, but the film retains all the things we love about Bond; the beautiful girls, the fantastic action, the sardonic wit, the exotic set pieces, the title theme song, etc. Daniel Craig makes a great Bond (for my money, he's actually closer to the literary Bond than any actor before him), and retaining Judi Dench as M (held over from the Pierce Brosnan era, but now better than ever) was an inspired move. Really, every tiny element of this movie is to be applauded.

I'm a huge Bond fan, and I adore all of his films (even the lackluster ones from the Roger Moore era), but I have to say that "Casino Royale" is my favorite 007 film yet!
