Most Cabela's games come off feeling like low budget titles, but this one looked and played like it had great production values. Instead of being saddled with a story mode, this title focuses solely on gameplay, which comes in the form of:
-Top Shot arcade mode - Where you are presented with 12 different stages, where you have a minimum score to beat.
-Bonus Career mode - Where you travel to almost a hundred different hunts, unlocking several kinds of weapons and gear along the way.
-Hot seat multiplayer, which can be played in single stages, or multiple sets.
-There is also a skeet shooting mode, and some modes you have to unlock to play.
This isn't the best looking game on the Wii, but it looks way better than many of them out there.
If there is one thing about this game that is wonky, it's the menu navigation. It uses the nunchuk stick instead of an IR pointer. Not sure why.
There are three control setups, one fore the Wiimote+Nunchuk, one for the Wii Zapper, and one for Cabela's exclusive Topshot 25" rifle accessory, which is like a Wii Zapper on steroids.
This game is long, without being tedious, and repeating previous hunts and challenges is fun! Though hardcore hunters who want a 100% simulation based title might find it a little too arcade-like for their tastes.
The only reason I didn't request to keep the Gamefly copy, is because I wanted the Topshot peripheral bundle. So the next time I fire this game up, I'll be playing with some serious "firepower"!
