This is the third game in the Dangerous Hunts franchise that I’ve played, and each one is pretty much like the others.
This game has a Story Mode, where you play as a hunter out to go from point A to point B, shoot some animals, and save some people from said animals. Just like the other games in the franchise, this one will take about four to six hours (which seems to be the norm for Wii adventure games).
Also included in the package is the Arcade Mode consisting of five stages. Each stage has sections where you get points for shooting the right animal with the right gun. You have to score a set number of points to get through each section – and don’t have your life bar emptied when predators attack you.
There’s also a Reflex Mode where you shoot certain animals for points (and score more points if you get them in a particular order.)
And there’s the Maneater Mode where two players play split screen. Here, you and possibly one other player fend off waves increasingly dangerous animals while achieving secondary objectives like protect an injured hunter, unlock a door, blow up some TNT, and so on.
Going through the motions is a lot of fun, but there’s really nothing new on display here that I haven’t seen in the other installments of Dangerous Hunts. The guns don’t upgrade at all, your hunter doesn’t improve much by leveling up, and there’s not much improvement in the graphical department.
And anyone hoping for a split screen story mode will be sorely disappointed because the game doesn’t have that feature.
Cabela’s Dangerous Hunts 2013 gives thrills – but not quite enough to justify a $40 price tag. RENT IT.
Graphics are poor. Control for the Wii is a bit burdensome. I am not recommending this game simply because the graphics are simplistic in that quality suffers. Not what I expected from this company. The story line was quite intense. This was the plus that accompanies the negative comment.
