This was my first time playing a Cabela's game so I can't compare it to the other games. However there are a few things that I would like to address being an average gamer.
First of all I found the controls kind of hard to get used to. This game mainly uses the L1, L2, R1 and R2 buttons so sometimes I got switched up on what button to press for what. Also, having played so many shooter games where you press L1 to shoot, having to press L2 to shoot in this game kept tripping me up.
I got really stuck early on in the game when the game has you set up a tree stand for the first time. I must have circled that tree a billion times pushing every button on the controller. The game failed to mention that to set up the tree stand you have to go to the duck caller in your inventory and hit the X button to bring up your alternate inventory then select the tree stand and hit X to switch out the duck caller with the tree stand. This is not mentioned in gamefly's online game instructions. So if you get stuck as I did...now you know...and knowing is half the battle! I found this inventory system a bit bothersome in that respect and I think the developers could have made it a bit easier to use.
I also found the Trophy Chase mode a bit lacking. The New Mexico hunts in that mode were not very good. There are way too many tall bushes, logs and boulders so it is really really hard to spot your trophy without them getting spooked and running off.
Story mode was to short in my opinion. I had a lot of fun in the story mode, so I was kind of sad to see it end.
It was a pretty good game but at the end of it all I just found myself wanting more.
