No Major Change from XBox

When it comes to this series, I must say I think I am finally burned out. I've followed this series since Burnout 2 and enjoyed all of them, but I found Burnout Revenge on X Box to be a step backwards from Burnout 3, and the 360 version only provides slightly improved graphics and HD. When it comes to the racing, I find Burnout 3 much more exciting, because in Revenge there are too many different paths and I often found myself down one path while my opponents are down a completely different path (and Burnout is a rather mediocre game without opponents to crash into). Thankfully, the Crash mode in Revenge took out the multipliers from 3, which essentially ruined that mode entirely. But, now they added extra junk to it. The brilliance of the original Crash mode was that all you had to do is run your car into stuff and cause as much damage as possible, but now it is filled with gimmicky doodads like 'pumping' the B button to charge your explosion (lame). The Crash mode in Revenge is slightly improved, but is still not very fun or challenging (its mostly luck). The only new mode is "Traffic Check" in which you ram the back end of cars into each other and build up combos. The first time I played this I was ecstatic. But, the enthusiasm is fleeting, as this game mode is both repetitve and generally unchallenging.
Everything about this title simply screams mediocre, and is obviously just a cheap way for EA to cash in some extra dough. If you have the need for speed or you need to satisfy your racing fix, I believe both Need for Speed Most Wanted and Project Gotham Racing 3 are much better options. If you just want a slightly better version of the X Box game, then I guess this is worth a rent.
