Build-A-Bear Workshop for Nintendo DS Reviews by Gamers

I was some what bored with the game, and underwhelmed with it in terms of its educational value. This game seems to be more of the "just for fun" variety, which is fine.

The game does require some reading, but my non readers seem to get through it intuitively without the benefit of reading the minimal texts.

My 3 year old was able to putter through many of the activities, keeping her entertained for about 15 minutes at a time. "Smart Kids" is the only thing she has played for longer.

My 5 year old enjoys this game the most, and can play for about as long as any other game she loves. She enjoys the repetitive and predictable nature of the game, though she is not an avid fan of video games and does not play anything for long stretches of time.

My 7 year old even enjoyed it for periods of time. In her own words:

"It is to easy for me, but teaching the tricks at the park is kind of hard. I got through it though, so I bet you can to. I can play for a little while but then I get bored"

First, a tween girl reviews the game:

It's a fun game but you finish it quickly. There aren't that many options of things to buy (clothing, accessories, etc.). Overall it's enjoyable, and I was excited to get into it, and watching my bear dance. Sometimes the dialog was a bit demeaning, with the helping bear saying things like "bearrific" and "furbulous!" and "pawsome!".

Now, a more experienced gamer:

Ok, so it's not perfect, but in my opinion, it is cheaper and in a lot of ways superior to having an actual build-a-bear... bear.
Let's compare:
REAL LIFE >, =, or < IN THE GAME
Buy extra clothes with money < buy extra clothes with fun minigames.
Get one bear for 10$-30$ < Get 3 bears for 20$
Pretend with bear for fun < cook food and play cool minigames for fun.

And may I mention that the bear moonwalks? that's awesome, you could never get your bear to do that in real life! So i say if you have a DS, and want a bear, just get this game, but don't expect it to cuddle you at night.
