Brink is something different. The game is, at best, somewhat innovative with it's mechanics. If you played games like Team Fortress and Mirror's Edge, this is what's created; a free running guerrilla warfare stylized game. Before I begin, this game is strongly based on team work. Lone wolves will be shot down on sight, literally (For you Call of Duty fans) Here is the basic break down, based entirely on facts.
Campaign Not very long, but if you like trophies, do it. The campaign is pretty much like any other FPS campaign; short enough to know the story, but not the game's pride and joy. Also, the AI's are relentless, and will take you down with precision that is not comparable to any person playing.
Multiplayer Obviously the game's core, it does leave a lot to be desired. Lag is one of the significant problems, making it hard for the player to utilize the S.M.A.R.T., the free running aspect, and trying to kill players. Some of those bullets looked like they hit, but the server didn't register it. While the developers are working to fix it, it should have been ready to play from the get-go. Another severe problem is the lack of players. The community quickly crumbled from lack luster reviews and players turning it back in because they felt the game sucked.
Overall Brink is a "love it or hate it" game. Whether the game is good, is entirely based on what the person wants in a game. The only for sure way someone will know if they should buy this game, is when they rent it, and this is why GameFly exists. Brink is definitely worth to rent, and only the person can decide to keep it.
For such a low rating this is a very good game. Its almost like shadowrun but a little less goofy. This game offers several different playing styles... A medic, soldier, operative, and engineer, all which add a very unique twist to the game and how it plays. The medic class is able to heal, the soldier class has the most fire power, the engineer class can create barricades and technology such as mines and the operative which can hack certain technologies to gain an advantage on other teams. There are many ways to customize your character the appearance as well as more abilities to better improve a class or overall classes. Its a mix between battlefield and maybe call of duty as well as shadow run and kill-zone. Its a very good game except for the occasional lag from terrible hosts, but very fun and I'm surprised about the low rating this game got... The other downside is there are 8 maps... But... They offer playable parts of the map so its almost as if there were 16 maps... Not that many game modes to choose from also... but i just like to kill and revive people so it doesnt matter to me. It provides simple objectives like capturing a head quarter and protecting it or escorting an npc and making sure he is not killed. Very simple to pick up and learn all the controls with a little time. There are updates frequently to improve game quality, so it is supervised by the game creators.
