Bethesda and Splash Damange did a good job at creating a Team Fortress 2 style game that's a nice departure from all the FPS that have inundated the market . The challenges, campaign, and freeplay are all team based and played according to how you want to interact with the game, be it with AI or with online players. You can open the game so that anyone can join your campaign or challenges, or just your friends, which I thought was nice. The customization of your character is a also a cool change of pace from typical FPS games. This is an aesthetic choice of course and it's nice to have the ability to create a cool looking character.
The game mechanics are loads of fun, and once you get the hang of grappling buildings and sliding behind objects, you can do some interesting maneuvers to flank your opponents, slide and shoot, and jump for cover.
The graphics aren't great but they also aren't full of themselves either. The quality of this game is team-based objectives. If you don't work with a team well, don't bother playing Brink.
The online game has a lot of lag and hopefully this issue will be fixed soon. Also, there aren't many maps to choose from, but the existing maps are big enough, and loaded with dynamics that it should stay fresh for a while. I'm sure we'll see more DLC maps.
Brink isn't going to reach CoD praise, especially if you're a serious FPS gamer, but it's still a lot of fun to play something that's not too full of itself. A nice departure from, what the market considers, the standard.
I am glad to say that I rented this one. I enjoyed the concept and I love the objective style gameplay. I just wish I could actually follow the story and play the campaign for a little longer.
The thing is, while they give you two campaigns so you can experience both point of view, which I wish all games did, they are to short. I also think that the hard difficulty is redicioulous for the fact that they downgrade my teamates as well as me, and that the missions tend to be pretty one sided and almost impossible to do when the odds are all stacked against you, specifically when on offense. The normal difficulty setting is the way to go, trust me.
I also found that I could stick to the same weapons all the way through the game, and that the medium class beats all, but that's just me.
I would keep the game if I find that the multiplayer is good, but otherwise Im going to send it back, and wait for L.A. Noire. I would strongly advise keeping the game compared to buying it new at this point, you save 20 bucks.
I was really looking forward to this game since they announced it to the gamers of the world. But it turned out to be a dissapoint! Theres a few good things about brink like the multiple weapons and the free running mixed together into one game (and dont forget the customizing your charecter option). But there is also the bad in this game like the not to well looking graphics and the single player and the multiplayer are the same thing. Just rent do not Buy!!
