Really Bad

Bound by Lame

When a video game becomes a chore to play, especially within the first ten minutes, it's an early sign that it'll be bad. This is the case with Bound by Flame, an RPG-style game that borrows gameplay elements from several other--better--games such as Dragon Age, The Witcher, and God of War, and poorly executes them into its own painfully generic formula.

While there is character customization like most fantasy RPGs, it is embarrassingly limited, offering only choices of a name, face, and hair, and even these barely have ten different options. Even the main character himself is forgettable and unlikeable, fitting in well with the rest of the cast who suffer from horrific dialogue and voice acting.

Combat also has its flaws. Using the square and triangle buttons for both light and heavy attacks, you defeat a surprisingly diverse horde of enemies throughout the game. However, the combat is repetitive and the spells you acquire barely assist your attacks. It's easy to see the influence of Dark Souls, with the game's focus on difficult enemy encounters, but they come off as frustrating instead of a productive challenge that made Dark Souls so great.

Graphically the game is decent. Nothing flashy, but not a complete eyesore either. Despite this, gameplay is more important for an RPG, and every RPG element is wasted here. It's easy to tell this was a quick port from last-gen to the PS4; next-gen gaming, this is not.

Also, it's worth mentioning that if a game's main menu soundtrack causes the player to cringe, then it should be taken under advisement to proceed with caution.

The only redeemable quality this game has is the voice acting of the demon. He was actually bearable, unlike the other 21st-century voice acting that was present in an assumed fantasy game with swords and giant spiders.

Don't waste your time with this game. There are no redeemable qualities that should allow a sequel. Do not rent or purchase. Save your money as well as your time.

No balance in gameplay, awful story and acting. The combat would be interesting if it was at all balanced, instead this is a mess of a game. Don't waste your time just to have an RPG on PS4, the graphics aren't impressive either, specifically the faces. Bad game and a waste of time.

I played this game about 2 hours. I tried, but it is such a weak attempt at an RPG, I couldn't take it anymore.
The dialog is horrible. A bunch of smart foul mouth modern scripting that doesn't match the supposedly mid evil times. The fighting is too hard for such a simple game. You will almost think you are playing Dark Souls. The story is meh, meh and more meh. I still don't know what it was really about. I just know some demon possessed you and now you have a new worthless flame power that really doesn't do any real damage.
I wanted to like this game, but it is far from DARKSIDERS OR DRAGON AGE. Stay away from this one. The graphics aren't that great either, but they aren't that bad, but definitely not next gen. Only thing I really liked about this game was the opening theme music, and how fast I was able to put this back into the slip and send it back to gamefly. HA!
