When I think of Boot Camp, the last thing that comes to mind is “fun”. The Boot Camp I know is a place where the armed forces shape recruits into battle ready soldiers. So why in the world would anyone want to make a game out of Boot Camp? I’m not sure.
In Boot Camp Academy, you and up to three other players can play up to 19 mini games that are quite varied. You can beat up escaped prisoners to drive a tank down an obstacle course to doing push ups.
And just like many other mini game compilations, the games are mixed when it comes to fun.
Some games I found to be a lot of fun; most of those games involve shooting something - soldiers, tanks, planes, sharks, guys in scuba outfits, asteroids, and so on.
Some other games weren’t as much fun because the controls are needlessly complicated. Games such as the one where you skydive, hack into computers, and beat up escaped prisoners. Why do I need to shake the Wiimote to punch a guy when I could just push a button.
Then there are games that I found not to be fun at all; these games are nothing but a mindless exercise in waving the Wiimote and/or Nunchuck: Doing pushups, peeling potatoes, drinking milk, and climbing rope. The game developers must’ve run out of imagination at this point.
The other modes don’t help much, either - there’s a multiplayer game where players play minigames to take spots on a map. Whoever gets the most spots wins.
And there’s a Campaign mode where one player has to go through all 19 games in a certain order - to unlock really bad looking figures. (The graphics and art style in this game are lacking).
This game could’ve been good - but the many boring games, bland game modes, and a really basic presentation keep me from enlisting in Boot Camp Academy. SKIP IT.
