Filmmaking institution Woody Allen is back in top form with this bittersweet, nuanced film detailing the financial and personal implosion of a socialite. Cate Blanchett plays Jasmine, a mentally unstable, rich lady whose life flames out when her husband is outed as a Bernie Madoff level con artist. With nowhere else to go, the pill-and-booze addled Jasmine packs her $5,000 suitcase and moves to San Francisco to live with her blue-collar sister. It's a little like The Odd Couple, if Felix Unger had been going mad. Newly single and absolutely broke, Jasmine attempts to piece her life back together through dating, searching for a career, and other - increasingly desperate - stabs at personal reinvention.
