The concept was decent but I felt that the AI seemed to give the player the short end of the stick whenever I played.
The game mimics the Warhammer football tabletop game, so each event requires a roll of the dice. It seemed however, that even when I only needed a low number to throw the ball 3 squares, I'd fumble. Yet when the AI required a 6 for a risky move, it'd always succeed.
This was all at the easiest setting. The game got frustrating and I couldn't bring myself to play more than 2 games due because every action ending up failing.
All in all, even if the rolling mechanics were more balanced, the game isn't especially exceptional. If you have any interest in the tabletop version of Warhammer football, then give it a try. Otherwise, it's not even worth a look.
I will qualify my review by stating that I am both a fan of all Games Workshop games and of turn based strategy games. This version of Blood Bowl was done quite well and follows the table top rules almost identically. Though I would have liked to see more armies/teams, the ones provided covered the different styles of play. My game seems to freeze every so often, but I don't know if that is caused by my specific copy or if it's a software bug. The graphics are bareable; nothing to write home about. The music is okay. I would only recommend this title to those who have at least heard of the game before and to those who enjoy turn based games.
Ever wanted to play elves vs orks in a game of football? Well, here is your chance! (Trolls, humans... etc.)
By all means this is not your run of the mill football videogame. It's Blood Bowl, meaning its actually a near direct conversion of the Games Workshop table top (tabletop NOT boardgame) game to the PSP. (and other platforms for that matter)
The graphics are good, and there are plenty of game options. Warhammer fans would find this game refreshing.
The game is pretty good, but not user friendly... it takes some effort to effectively play the game at its full potential. But once you master it, its well worth the effort.
And indispensable video game for Games Workshop fans. And worth a look/rent for football or strategy game fans.
