Those expecting a dynamic representation of the Bleach Story line will be disappointed. The story is told trough uninspired narrations at the beginning of every stage without so much as a still frame from the show. What little cut-scenes are available amount to short instances where two characters stand and exchange one or two lines of dialogue. The game does very little to explain the situation to those who have not seen the television show and doesn't offer much in terms of fan service.
This game adapts the Dynasty Warriors play style and does nothing special with it. The amount of enemies on screen is not what you would expect from a game like this. The game tries to reward you for a high combo counts; but you'll find that you'll normally run out of enemies to defeat before hitting a high combo number. All characters in the game are represented in their strongest form, don't expect to find any kind of transformation mechanic.
The game does a good job of recreating the animated look that Bleach is popular for; colors are vibrant and the special move animations are nice to look at. Where the game falls short is the soundtrack. Gone is the shows iconic soundtrack, what were left with is a generic set of hard rock themes.
If your a fan of Dynasty Warriors game-play its worth an hour or two of your time; but there are better games to choose from. If you need to scratch that hack and slash itch; Find yourself a copy of Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes 3 or One Piece Musou if your lucky. If you want a dynamic anime experience pick up one of the Ninja Storm games. Everyone else stay away from this game.
I got this because I am a huge Bleach fan and I was thinking that this game was going to be like the show and I was so wrong about that. The graphics on this game kind of came across as a mix between 2D and 3D so that was one of the downfalls to this game. Another downfall would have to be the fact that it was repetitive (and not in a good way). One of the huge pluses of the game is that they got the characters correct on it. There are three things that would have made this game great. First if it had two players and the story was Co-Op (and not split screen), the second would be if THQ or Sony would have made this. The last thing would have to be if you was able to create your own Bleach character from scratch. Overall, I would rent this maybe if you are a Bleach fan; but you will get bored with it very fast.
