So BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger is made by the guys who made Guilty Gear, now first off let me say that I actually like Guilty Gear, it's not my favorite fighting game but I think it's alright. But this game seems different from Guilty Gear control wise but tries to be the same as well, and in my opinion it fails.
I found the fighting in this game to be ridiculous. There are not a lot of different options when it comes to how to control your characters and I found this very aggravating and the characters moves set suffered because of it.
There isn't any combos or anything like Street Fighter just a very low count of moves that you could combine but some of the characters moves I found pointless. Yet when you play online the people who have mastered this game constantly put you in a corner and doing attacks that always seem to interrupt you and when you are in a corner you pretty much lost because once you are getting hit it seems you can never seem to get out of being hit and you just have to lay back, accept the beating until the match is over, I for one do not see the fun in this.
Now for the story, it is incredibly confusing, doesn't make sense at all and after a little amount of time trying to get further in to it I found myself not caring anymore. Apparently some of the characters are the same person but it's not really explained how and the game also has the main characters talk about or show characters from their past and not give a good explanation about them or how they know them.
I thought that this game would be a good fighting game especially after reading the good reviews but really I think this game is weak, really aggravating and not worth your time. I really don't get why this game is accepted as a good game by many but maybe if you are a hardcore 2d fighting game MAYBE you might enjoy this but I will stick to Street Fighter and Tekken.
Ok first of the game starts off good looking all flashy n stuff but then you hit story mode not only is there only like 8 ppl to play with or 12 the story mode is actually that there's 45% more text reading then actual fighting other then that with the pages n pages of txt that u have to read cus its not voiced the combat system is ugh n the key buttons are not good hard to get thehanfg of n can mix you up n my imo the game shoulda stayed in Tokyo
When it comes down to it they basically tried to recreate Guilty Gear........and failed.
Like Guilty Gear there is a "main" character...Sol Badguy 'is to' Ragna The Bloodedge if you will...and boy does he NOT live up to his ancestor. Yes Sol Badguy wasn't the quickest kid on the block but at least he could easily follow up, by this I mean combos. To get a combo with Ragna is far do complicated and his special moves are ALL close-quarters, leaving you completely open to attacks from a faster opponent (which is almost everyone else).
Same roughly goes for Ky Kiske's clone...he may be fast but he doesn't compete with Ky on any level. Not only does he lack the range Ky had, but once again combos don't reach the same level of fluidity.
As for Story mode, it's like those choose your path novels. Make the wrong choice and eventually your story ends abruptly and "untruthfully"...yup you go back to the character select menu with a less than complete percentage rating for that character's story....anddddd you have to start all over again...yay.
In closing (because I honestly grow tired of complaining about this game) if you want to play this game cause you lover Guilty Gear...DON'T...otherwise check it out and see for yourself.
