I am sorry to say that Bladestorm gets my vote for worst game of the year. Nothing in this game works right, from the "must constantly adjust" camera, to the unorganized method in how battles are fought. From your very first battle, which serves a tutorial of sorts, you will already see how uneven this game is. The battles are fought in Dyanasty Warriors fashion with hundreds of soldiers on screen. However, you are strongly encouraged to attack as a group rather than go at it solo like in the DW games. You can control foot soldiers, archers, and cavalry. Switching between the groups is as simple as pressing the x button, but when you are in the middle of a battle, it becomes a nightmare. Also the camera must be constantly adjusted which becomes an issue especially when you are using your archers. The infantry soldiers all attack in unison when issued a command. The cavalry soldiers can be a little hard to use as you have to allow for momentum to be built on horseback in order for some attacks to be successful. The control scheme for the tasks at hand are terribly conceived. During the battles things get really hectic and with the overly crowded nature its hard to see where your character is not to mention the having to constantly backtrack to switch between groups. Forget about going at it solo because you get killed in a matter of minutes. What could have been an excellent strategy game instead becomes a chore to work through. Coupled with horrible voice acting, uninspired menu design, and very basic graphics, this is a poor example of next generation gaming. If you decide to rent this, you have been warned.
