I was expecting more from this title, really, I was. The opening sequence, with the song and all, was simply sweet! Made you want to get into the game. "This is gonna rock!"

Sadly, it doesn't.

Game start, the cloggy controls take some getting used to, and the camera buttons are backward from what you would expect, so you find yourself spinning around to get the right angle so you can lock onto things to select them. So you do a couple of simple "Do this, go here" quests in the town, and then you venture forth to slay some beasts!

Turn based combat is annoying, as you are forced to wait for the move meter to circle, and indicate you can do something. If you could move, and dodge, that would be one thing, but you can't.

Finish battle, rejoice! Walk, fight, walk, fight, then your weapon breaks! ???? Really? I can accept battle damage, and needing to go get items serviced, but you have no option for this, they just break, and are gone. So you need to "craft" a new one. Which is REALLY annoying, after the 30th time. I'm only killing low level robbers and beasts!

So after several hours of mindless battles, attempts at recreating lost weapons, only to see it tell me "Lost large blade" - well, there's 2000 coins I'll not see again...... I finally sent this puppy back.

A shame, because the beginning LOOKED so good..... Perhaps the later points in the game would be better, but I didn't have the patience to find out. and I LOVE RPGs.

I must say that I agree with several other user reviews on many aspects.

The story.

What story? I like a RPG with a strong central character who has an interesting story/dilemma. The main character is lackluster at best. Perhaps I am a little biased by the Final Fantasies of the world, but I just couldn't get into the character of Lance. And the story is not very developed, but then again, I didn't get too tremendously far in the game before I sent this one back to Gamefly.

The lack of instruction.

I think one of the main issues I had was figuring out the controls. It doesn't have the typical PS1, PS2 or PSP controls. The use of "X" is quite common, for example, to indicate action...talking to other characters, etc. I kept walking up to other characters and hitting the X and nothing was happening. You have to select your target with the square button and THEN press X. It may seem like a little thing to get agitated about, but it was just time consuming and annoying for me.

The enemies.

I died right out of the gate pretty much as soon as I left town. So I decided, hey! I'll just level up! That usually works. Gain a few levels and then I'll be good to go for a little while. So I would fight random enemies, and go back to town to save after I gained a level. This didn't really last too long. I got to level 5 and then I died in one battle, after I had healed the guy. It was so frustrating!

If I had bought this game, I know I would've given it more of a chance. But, alas, I rented it. It wasn't my cup of tea so it had to be sent back.

If you have incredible patience and are a lover for all RPGs, then give it a try. Different strokes for different folks, you know?

This game is a little bit better than Dragoneer's Aria but nowhere near Brave Story which I think is the best RPG on PSP. Some of the battles are too hard. Some of your party members leave you outta nowhere. All the mobs are flying skulls. I don't like how in the battles that it's not really turn-based. Your enemies can keep attacking you whether you like it or not. There's no pausing. The only thing that I did like about the game was it was fully 3D and reminded me of Final Fantasy XI but the goodness stops right there.
