Wonderful game. From the moment you start the game a mystery as to what exactly your doing in such odd places begins to occur. The story drags you along throughout the game, which is where this game shines. Other shining areas are defiantly in sound design and the enviroment design. It comes to life, I spent the first hour just walking around enjoying everything.
The shooting is fun and looks good. Not sure if I would call it the best first person shooter, but it's enjoyable.
This game was getting a nice 9 from me until I started 1999 mode and my anger was struck a few times. First off, I don't remember the game every stopping to load in regular mode, but it did a lot in 1999 mode. Also I seemingly would get stuck on random items that were really small while running, or Elizabeth would get in my way more often in this mode. Strange.
Some of the enemies and situations could be deemed unfair. And I don't care for games that just bulk up the enemies health and expect you to empty 10 clips into him to kill him. Seems uncreative to me, like you can't find a better way for us to deal with this enemy than run around him for 10 minutes, hiding, and trying to get shots off when you can.
Another issue is why can't I load a 1999 mode chapter on Easy when I'm done? I had to replay half the game just to do some clean up on Easy because you can't start a chapter on Easy from 1999 mode.
Overall a Very Good Game bordering on Excellent for me. A perfect rental, it got me hooked in. Platinumed it. Heck, there was even a digital copy of Bioshock 1 on the Gamefly disk that let me download Bioshock 1 for free!
Absolutely stunning visuals and design, fantastic story and characters. Excellent voice acting, and all and all a well designed FPS with something for everyone.
From the music to the details, there was very little about this game that didn't have me hooked right away.
My only complaint is that the combat system can be a bit clunky in big fights. There are moments where you're juggling weapons and powers and it can feel a bit fussy when you've got five or six guys coming at you. I felt like that could have been handled better, but overall I didn't find it detracted from the quality of game play at all.
Excellent game, felt a bit shorter than the first two, but was incredibly fulfilling none the less. :) Well worth a rent, and I think when the DLC starts trickling out I'll be buying a copy to own. :D
