The Bioshock games have always had a great world to immerse yourself in and this one was no exception with Columbia. But the world is only part of it as Bioshock developers have always had a fun and meaningful way to put difficult themes and messages in their games and I dare say are one of the only ones who can do it well. Of course what would be an immense world without an amazing soundtrack? You don't have to worry about that because again this game also has a soundtrack that makes you feel you are in that time while adding some new-ish songs to the era via time rips.
Since I brought up the time rips it is time I mention Elizabeth. Now normally having an NPC go around you all the time feels like a crummy escort mission. But Elizabeth is completely different in that you actually get attached to her and wish that she stay by you for the entire duration. Part of this is because of how she interacts with the environment but even more so because she will often throw money, ammo, and various other things towards you to aid you in the game. She rarely even gets in your way and seamlessly rides the skyrails. Ohh and the skyrails are simply amazing! They never feel like something required but a fun and nice addition to moving around Columbia.
As for the gameplay it is more or less the same as the previous 2 Bioshocks. I have seen complaints from some about the consoles version making you pause to select vigors or switch weapons but I didn't find it bad but rather a moment to plan strategy in the middle of the battle.
The only actual cons in this game is the lack of multiplayer, short campaign, and no New+ feature. For this I couldn't give it a perfect 10.
Overall I give this game a 9 out of 10. Again I only deduct mostly because of lack of multiplayer especially since the 2nd one had it. However the ending alone will blow your mind to pieces and warrants this game huge recognition. Simply put this game left me "Bioshocked"!
This is one of those few games where you feel like you've really been transported to another world. This world is not only beautiful, but scary and foreboding. Just the thought of walking around the next corner of the game fills me with such real emotions. The story line is top notch and the character interaction is enticing and rewarding. Combine this with the most well rounded and solid game play and you'll see why this game won so many awards. It's short but you'll be thinking this one over for weeks after. 1999 mode adds great replay value, even though you're going to want to play it over regardless. Added to my list of games everyone should play. A true milestone.
This game has lots of creativity and variety but sometimes is too overwhelming. For example, you are only able to hold 2 guns at a time when there are tons of guns that I wanted to use at different times. Also, you are able to only set 2 different powers on your shortcut hot key (Left Bumper). The developers should allow you to determine how many different powers you can set on the hot key.
Other than that, the game is very fun and gets better toward the end. I'm sure it's fun multiplayer but I only played it single player. Enjoy it!
